Blue Mage is karma for Red Mage

Remember when Red Mage came out? There was some excitement, but also a lot of complaints that it was a traditional job. It fit the Trinity as a DPS, it wasn't a true hybrid, etc. People complained all over that it didn't fit the RDM they envisioned, because they had to make it fit dungeons and raids.

With BLU, they do the opposite. They listened and said "Fine, we won't make it fit, we'll give you the spirit of the job instead." And we got exactly that.

    This is karma.

Who complained? Like 10 out of 100? Most of the people actually liked how the job turned out, myself included and I'm a RDM super fan and a traditionalist. The job is fun and well designed, while at the same time its core stayed. Let's compare the uproar threads between RDM and BLU. Seems like there's more BLU uproar threads.

This is not karma, this is just a bad joke.

It could be karma too in that from the other aspect. I loved how they did Red Mage, I thought it was an intelligent way of making the job fit into FFXIV's mold. And it flows so well when you play it. The type of Blue Mage we're getting is the kind I'll probably love. Though I am currently hanging my judgment on a) how it ends up playing and b) how dire the restrictions actually end up being in practice.

I think the reality is people are different and have different opinions on how things should be. SE will never please all the people all the time. There are people praising what they're doing with Blue Mage as well. So maybe SE are trying to satisfy both camps but in doing so they also have to disappoint both camps. But at least if you want to play a jack of all trades, if you prefer to do it the FFXIV way, you have Red Mage, if you prefer the traditional way, you have Blue Mage.

However, my experience of them trying something more traditional hasn't ended way in implementation. So who knows, those praising may also end up disappointed. At the same time, we could all be being too pessimistic and find the pay off worth it.

An ideal scenario but one that will never occur on a Final Fantasy message board, ever.

Yeah let's wait until January to voice concerns! Then let's wait until 5.0 to voice our concerns! Then let's wait until 5.1! 5.2! 5.3! ...6.0! Don't worry guys, SE has never made a mistake and they always make needed adjustments super duper quickly. I mean, look at how fast Dark Knights and Machinists got their much-needed overhauls for Stormblood! Why, it only took... until Shadowbringers launch? Maybe?

I know, people often forget what was 1.0. If people didn't complain we wouldn't have this game. Shame complaints are considered as negative attention.

Complaints are great. They inform design. But complaining about something we don't even have yet seems premature.

I didn’t complain. I actually like Red Mage. I guess since I never played 11 I didn’t have an expectation.

Never played Blumage in XI but I have played Gau and Strago in FFIII(yes I am that old and aware there is FFVI). Strago is the blumage, Gau while isn't learns abilities roughly the same. As well in FFVII, everyone who has Enemy Skill Materia is basically a Blumage.
I like every job in XIV. Some more than others. Yeah some have issues or had issues that makes me like them less than others but Blumage to me was a new job I get to play with my friends and randoms who could also be new friends from dungeons and raids.
instead that won't be the case here.
