why wont u just don't play the job when it comes out. When SE sees that allot of people don't even unlock BLU and play as it they'll change their mind and do the things you seem to want them to do.

I don't think I've read anyone say that they don't like BLU's progression system, or the creative new things they've done with it in comparison to other jobs. Most of the comments I've read about it have been positive.

The part people don't like is the relatively weak excuses given for why this class can't participate in the rest of the game. If they'd come out and said "we want to make sure we can implement this correctly, we're using it as an experiment and plan to slowly grow it into a full class", I doubt we'd have half the outrage. Instead every indication has been that they have no intention to allow it to take part in the rest of the game, and that they plan to keep future experiments segregated as well.

I plan to still play the job because it sounds fun, and, well, I love Blue Mage. That doesn't mean I don't want them to know that I find locking a classic Final Fantasy job to what is essentially a trial version of FFXIV permanently unacceptable.

The funny thing is players often complain asking SE to have a test realm to try out things before they go live, but now it's happened with BLU suddenly it's the other way around. We could just not had BLU at all till 5.0 instead of 4.5, how about that eh.

Test realms aren't the same thing as live realms..

I get a feeling this will be a live test of the concept and when 5.0 comes around it will receive adjustments and it will open up to more content. Just wait and see, people complain there's nothing to do since they don't like relics,raiding or whatever... level a class the old school way; no deep dungeons or roulette. Besides, it weill give me an excuse to clean up the old zones of some lingering quests I saved for such a possibility/laziness.

I'm taking a lot of people's advice on this one. I was excited to come back to the game with the thought of being able to play end game as a class I liked playing in FFXI. But I play multiplayer games for the reason that I want to be able to play with people in current content as a job I like. I've leveled ever job/class in this game to 70. None of them really caught my interest in terms of mechanics or aesthetic. I was looking forward to playing FFXIV as a class I enjoyed. For me, what they're doing to blue mage is the same thing is playing a class you like but with no ability to glamour it. Playing the game was a slog but I looked forward to playing with random people to show off what the new class could do, and even if it wasn't the "best" or "meta" be determined to be one of the good ones.

With the information that they've released and how they're implementing it, I cannot in good faith keep a monthly sub. I wish the best of luck to people who think this will be fun. But until then, there are way more alternatives out there for me to find enjoyment elsewhere. Maybe it'll be enough of a sign that not as many people want to play the expansion or play the "limited" side-quest of a gimmick class that they rethink it and make it a real job that can do current content. If that ever happens, I will be more than happy to support them again.

You literally compared SE putting blu on live servers to be tested, what's happening now, to having an isolated test server.

Also SE never said this was a testing of blue mage either.

Because we already know that we won't be allowed to play it like every other job in the game. They spent half the live letter telling us that they don't want to balance the class to be used at the current capped content. They spent half the live letter making it extremely clear that this is not a test phase and that they don't want BLU ever participating in capped content. This idea that it's limited now to "test" the job is just desperation because accepting the truth that BLU is a mini-game instead of a job is, admittedly, very sad and painful.
