Lightning crystals make no sense

Alright, I can understand why we have what types of crystals we do, and I can play with the idea of using crystals in unique ways (using water to mix things better in alchemy, using wind to get rid of all the imperfections in goldsmithing, earth to harden stuff in leatheworker/armorer) but I have no idea how we use lightning crystals. Do we like.. zap the cotton straight into yarn? Electrify the clothing so it lights up? Make our spinning wheel into an electric sewing maching!?

I know this is a silly question, like bro just craft, but I'M JUST SO CONFUSED!!!

The bolt of lightning is a traditional symbol of sudden illumination and the destruction of ignorance; it also represents a punishment of humans by the gods from the skies, most commonly attributed to Zeus, king of the gods. In dreams, the lightning bolt is an image of sudden and terrible events and a symbol of intuition. Although it can carry negative connotation, lightning is also a form of divine message, honoring those chosen. Its shape allows phallic relations, and Jung sees lightning as liberating the soul.

I think it has to do with lore they borrowed from XI.
In XI, each element's crafting crystal was used for a specific task or effect, explaining why you used those crystasl for that craft.
Lightning Crystals were used for Disintegrating or De-synthizing.
If we take Cotton Yarn for example, it requires 2x Cotton Boll.
The Lightning Crystal could be used to break the boll into small fibers, which the WVR could then spin with their wheel to make the yarn.
