1, 2, and 3 I am all for. I think 4 is a bridge too far though. Most of the people I see starting fresh hit 50 with about 200k to their name, and even sticking strictly to vendor gear, that probably isn't enough. Plus, most people got bigger problems with their play than ilvl.

Most level 50 content is already level-locked, so that point is moot. And by the time you run through even just the MSQ, between the trials and MSQ dungeons and your own first timer bonus, you should have enough for at least several good poetic pieces. The same applies to level 60, but at that point you already get 230 sets from the quests. HW and SB both throw HQ gear at you through MSQ and close side-quests.

Plus, most people got bigger problems with their play than ilvl.
Read my Shinryu example in #3 again. It ties directly in with #4. Gear doesn't only boost your DPS, it also buffs your vitality. It keeps you from dying to unavoidable damage which you should've survived.
And now that I think about it, they also need to revise the ilvl weight. Because people do go into Shinryu with high-enough ilvl, but what pushed them up was the right-side which doesn't give vit to non-tanks.

You need to reread what I wrote, or remember what you wrote. I am not talking about level 50 content.

The game basically throws gear at you afterward so I'll assume you mean <50 content. But the point still holds, arguably all the more-so. Charas these days start with full right side, and Hall of the novice exists - you can easily lock a hefty portion of dungeons behind however much ilvl that nets you, with occasional jump in ilvl from what the job quests give you (at least weapon). Then when you hit 45 the game gives you even more gear, and at 50 you get ilvl 90 pieces. There is still no excuse, especially when at those levels the ilvl and actual level are identical. It's not until you hit 50 that ilvl hits exponent.

Just did a price check. For Ninja's a full set of 115 vendor gear costs 130,419 Gil. Tanks (more expensive gear) are ~ 150,000. That's IF you don't spend a single poetic that the game showers you with while leveling.

Again, there is no excuse not to have gear in this game when it comes from everywhere.

Poetics, GC gear (which is good for every 10 levesl)
