Can the explosions on Suzaku be just a little more forgiving?

I love this primal fight, but the server ticks are so frustrating. Even though my ping is not that high, I find that the explosion phase isn't correctly tracking where my character is, even if (from my point of view) it looks like I move in plenty of time. Same with the arrows and balls.

I don't know if it's even possible to adjust something like that, but it seems like the server is struggling to keep up. Making it just a little slower would allow everything to be more fully processed, I think. Have you all had a similar experience?

Do you keep track of which pie segment is going to be hit next? Not sure if that hint is in Extreme or not as I haven't tried Extreme. Or slight lag? I have slowish net to where I can play the game fine except for when there's just enough lag that I notice the syncing is off enough that I get hit by things I normally wouldn't be. I also know that for some people parts of omega for example lowers their fps.

In my experience, the issue is that the visual explosion actually lags behind the hit determination on your character. This is actually how most AoE's in the game work. If you go by what you see visually, you're too slow and you get hit. You need to get out of the AoE before the game decides to give you damage, which is when the cast bar fills if there is a cast bar. You should be able to reliably evade the explosions even if you're trying to move between two consecutive tiles that are about to explode if you find the right timing.

There are also only 2 patterns to the explosions and reading them properly means you never have to be near an exploding section of the floor. Similar to the program lists in O7S, what appears to be random is really just a couple of fixed patterns.

Stop trying to dance between two of the sectors. The explosions go in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction

It works like all the other aoes in the game - the damage is set on the server before the animation but the damage is applied after the animation. That's where you get the wonky feeling. So if you time it right you can actually run into the fire and not get hit. You can sidestep on the creases for any pattern if you are quick enough. It's more optimal than merry go round in EX.

Like many things in this game, it's highly sensitive to latency, which is highly variable with FFXIV servers and especially tends to spike in the US evenings.

But this instance in particular makes it horrible. With the forced march mechanic, I've been 25~30% into the next quadrant, when the last quadrant explodes and still hits me. Usually not, but sometimes it does. :/

    Yay for SE's networking...

The problem is inconsistency. This can work 90% of the time, but occasionally you'll get screwed because of the game's network issues.

The strategy that seems to work for me "sometimes" is to look at the 4th orb and stay close to its neighbor until it's going to explode, then just step over. Even then, I still sometimes get caught in it.

Yeah, that's a pure latency issue. Sounds like you have it worse than me.

I wish the transition phase is more forgiving though, those server ticks during the dance dance revolution was annoying.

I have not. Generally I'll glance at the explosion sequence and position myself so that I'm (a) next to the first platform to explode, and (b) away from the second platform. This gives me plenty of time to move safely to the first, after it's exploded. I haven't done EX yet, but the principle is the same: don't be on the next platform, and don't be on the one immediately following it.

As for the arrows, I haven't had any issues personally, and indeed found the confirmation mechanism to be quite useful. I suspect that moderate-to-high latency would cause a problem with these, and SE could in theory slow them down, but in so doing would likely make the content trivially easy for users without high latency. It's always a trade-off, there.
