Doesn’t work on mountain buster because it’s physical damageWut?
Why Bristle?
Bristle is pointless, because spending a GCD to deal 150% damage on your next GCD is objectively inferior to spending 2 GCD's dealing 100% damage.
(Unless of course it affects Primal skills in which case Mountain Buster/Static Strike with their 310 potency means that Bristle is a 155 potency GCD which is, sadly, superior to every option BLU has for filling their GCD's due to 130 being the highest damaging GCD skill...)
Because Bristle plus song of torment is a dps gain over casting 2 130 potency skills, song of torment is 300 potency, so buffing it with bristle makes it 450 potency across the dot duration, hence a dps gain.Wut?

Edit for more detail in case some people need it spelled out: casting 2 130 gcds= 260 potency, casting a 130 potency gcd then song of torment (300 pot)= 430 potency. Casting Bristle then song of torment= 450 potency, 20 potency gained, which adds up to more because of BLU buff windows (Peculiar light+ Off Guard)
Edit 2 because I guess I'm a bristle Evangelist: Downtime exists in nearly all fights, in that downtime, you can cast bristle, thats just free damage.

Savage Completion Rate ~5%+ of active players. Community: "Ugh stop catering to savage"

Frontline/ Rival Wings/ Hidden Gorge Mount Aquisition ~0.05-1% of active players. Community: "Ugh PVP is so dead in this game, they should stop investing in it"
Blue Mage Morbol Mount Aquisition ~0.01% of active players. Community: "WoW bLuE mAgE iS sO fUn AnD aCtIvE i CaN't WaIt FoR mOrE lImItEd JoBs"
Bristle is also the only spell you can cast to use an OGCD without clipping while losing no potency compared to another 130 cast.Because Bristle plus song of torment is a dps gain over casting 2 130 potency skills, song of torment is 300 potency, so buffing it with bristle makes it 450 potency across the dot duration, hence a dps gain.

I ,for one, already have. Almost all the excuses for limited jobs they gave us fell apart in less than 24 hours of Blue Mage being released, and I've got no faith that the dev team won't just copy and paste the limited job idea as much as possibly with only slight tweaks to the formula as long as people let them. That's what they seem to be doing with Eureka and PotD, despite how contentious the former is.
I don't care about them making BLU a regular rather than 'limited' job, as it would take a lot for me to abandon RDM to main something else as it is. If, on the other hand, they had really made this a solo job (as they promised?) that could have been a useful way for me to clear old content by myself instead of having to beg my FC for help. As it stands, I don't have any use for BLU, and am not the least bit interested in grinding for either levels or skills.
Having played blu some more and while i was ok with SE trying something new, having Blu in it's current form as a job changes would be needed.
Currently it really is weak AF so potency changes would need to be made for starters. I am not a Blu purist (i am more for wanting Dancer) so will leave it to others to discuss.
One thing people cannot deny and i seen some argue about it but it really was clear about the job slide they showed, what we actually got was something different. Solo play but you need to be in parties for a bunch of stuff...
Where is the thread that asks SE to make BLU an unlimited job because I need to show my support!!!
I'm very new to the forums but I signed up to give my voice on this.
I know this is a very divisive issue, and that there are two groups: the people who want a "real, true, learning BLU" and the people who want to have BLU as their main job.
I am very upset that I can't currently play as Blue Mage in all content, as I have wanted it to be my main job for years. But honestly I don't think those two sides need to be apart.
Yoshi-P has always been an advocate for content for all kinds of players. Remember his reply to the open world PVP question at NA Fanfest this year? The audience member asked if any open world PVP was planned. Yoshi said no, but responded negatively to the applause that followed, stating that while it's fine to wish for content you like, it's not cool to wish that others do not get content they like. I really respect that attitude, but I also think it can be applied to the Blue Mage.
Instead of implementing a very popular, very nostalgic Job with only one real form of content, it would be more appropriate to include both fun solo content and the ability to raid as a Blue Mage. You could integrate the spell learning aspect heavily into the leveling process while keeping the benefits of balanced high-end play.
There are all sorts of proposals on how to do this, and I might even post a few of my own ideas in the coming days.
I have faith that the company who made the best RPG franchise ever, and who turned FFXIV 1.0 into the best MMORPG on the market, can turn this mistake into a miracle, and I look forward to seeing future developments.
So. The Masked Carnival. I finally get the spells I needed to participate in this...this...thing. And I get started and its fun at first. Puzzle fights are fairly interesting. Then we start getting into meat shield fights. Okay, less fun but still not to bad. And then you get to number 15. Okay so sleep the add until its berserk wears off, fine. Now wear it down while keeping the boss targeted so you can interrupt it, still cool. And then this stupid freaking add just goes berserk. High damage skills, instant use, over and over and over.
This is not fun. Typhoon Snort then triple fireball that ignores Mighty Guard? Not fun. These fights are exercises in frustration that have you beating your head against a wall screaming primal fury and when you DO finally beat them, there is no sense of satisfaction. Just a vague sigh of tired relief that you don't have to do that nonsense again.
Well, I got all my spells and finished the Carnival. Is that it? Is there anything else I can do? I mean, it's not OP enough to solo dungeons like SE insinuated, and they kept it out of anything that matters. So, I guess we got a cool new job that lasted about a week.
For once in your company's life, listen to your players. This is a sick joke.
