    Uncertainty about blue mage

So, if I understand right, blue mage will be like its own independent class. But it can't use matchmaking or roulettes, which are how things get done in the game. No ones going to take a bunch of blues through shiva a thousand times on the hope they'll learn her attacks.

These classes existed in ffxi right? Did they work well there? How would a solo class coexist in an mmo?

As someone who re-fought primals hundreds of times and kept seeing several of the same people also fighting them hundreds of times for a single Triple Triad card, I can guarantee people will do it for blue magic.

It's very difficult to answer questions about XI because you'd be lacking a lot of other contextual information about how that game worked in general. The short version is that it was horribly imbalanced in general and some jobs were the gods of everything while others were never invited to anything.

Blue Mages were severely overpowered in FFXI. Did as much damage as a "proper" dps job, and could buff itself and not have to rely on others to get them, like every other job did. So the question was, do you get a BLU? Or get another dps and something else so they can be hasted? Not only that, they can buff and heal the party. You could run 18 BLUs in a raid and do fine. Put a lot of DD in LFG. And wow, you think dps queues are bad here? Try waiting 2 hours to form a full group, go kill two normal enemies, and have the party disband.

And FF XI had a solo class. It was called Beastmaster. It worked fine, if you just wanted to solo. It brought nothing to groups, and the pet you have could actually cut how much xp the party would get. Even when level capped, it still brought nothing to an end game dungeon or raid as far as abilities, damage or tanking. By itself, it does better then most classes, but in a group, everything they do is subpar compared to every other class (except maybe PUP. Poor PUP).

Then again, FF XI devs were faaaar less worried about balancing classes then FF XIV's are. To a lot of job's loss (poor PUP).

Blue Mages were a very good class in FFXI both solo and in teamwork. Stack the right kind of spells and you were a tanking/healing/fighting machine that could survive pretty much most situations and provide high DPS or even tanking in parties.

I'm rather unimpressed with the proposed ideas of Blue Mages in FFXIV being a solo class. It defies the very reason of playing an MMO, you play them to play with other people not play by yourself. Having that choice taken away to make it solo only seems wrong and disappointing for someone who's been looking forward to having Blue Mage added.

As for leveling from what someone told me they'll gain much higher than normal experience points from monster killing to compensate for the lack of experience point bonuses that they could've gotten via duty roulettes. It still sounds like it would be a massive grind-fest to me.

It wasn't just Beastmasters, pretty much any class that had a pet was mostly ignored because they didn't want the pet feeding TP to the mobs so they ended up soloing most of the game or partnering up with each other so they didn't have to suffer in silence. Only Summoner got better treatment because they were treated as Ninja tank healers before they got buffed and became pretty good pet DPS classes.

Maybe true. Blue Mages will, however, almost certainly jump at the chance to join in any mount farms to kill two birds with one stone.

Except they'll be capped at 50 and the only mounts they'd be able to farm will be the level 50 ones, if you already got a level 70 job then you will pretty much already have the mounts since they're very easy to solo at 70.

Yeah whatever its said many many player will go trough the blue mage grind, finish the coliseum and wait for the lv decap but to be honest personaly going back to play RNG on old content, killing boss I could do in my sleep, getting carried away by an unsynch party to get spell I'll never use in any relevant content isn't my conception of a cool job.

Correction. They will be capped at 50 when 4.5 hits. But they will also level to 80 when 5.0 hits.

Nope, they said it will be increased on later patch they never said once it will be 80 at 5.0 nor they said it will be increased in the remaing patch. They just said level cap will increase later.

We will more likely get a lv60 with HW spell to learn and lv70 with SB patch to learn patch during 5.x and if lucky a lv80 with ShB spell to learn even later in 5.4 if not even later because new monster will be released and will needed to be added to the spell pool of the BLU.

Well 5.0 IS a later patch. And 4.5 itself comes in two chunks, so.....

Anyroad, the bottom line is 50 won't be the cap forever.
