Wait, what? You think because players are not talking to each that they are not interacting? See, it's misconceptions like this that give off an air that the game is in a worse state than the reality. This is not the only form on interacting. A colony of ants is incapable of speech, yet they are still communicating and interacting aren't they?

Truth of the matter is, when you are in group content, all of you start interacting the moment someone says hello, or the duty ring disappears and the lot of you charge forward to accomplish the objectives. This doesn't mean the interactions are always good, but they are always happening. From this perspective, it is easier to see that interactions between players happen all the time.

Now if you want a more social aspect added to FFXIV that is a different story. This is what we don't have in comparison to some other mmos out there, but it isn't because of game design. Anything but. From a bird's eye view, I don't really see the desire for this from the playerbase. Not even close. We group because we share a common interest or goal, not to be social. The game provides opportunities to be social, but does not force them. It's up to us to interact in a way that does involve speech and emotes, as it should be. Being social typically also results in no progression for your character, and some people are truly here just to play the game.

The benefit to being social though is you can acquire friends, which then opens up a network. For players like me, this is scary because of the issues I have being social. So it really is a good thing that it is left up to us, the players to be social.
