Can you imagine if it were just. A NPC saying, " Go battle this Monster for X ability" every 2 levels for your job class. Thats the only way BLM would work in current content. If predefined skills were set.

Well, realistically speaking blu has no theme so the sky's the limit. If I were doing blu as a regular job I'd make them a melee dps and give them clubs for no reason other to be somebody else making use of blunt resistance. Give them the usual melee combos that have essentially nothing to do with using monster skills and then have all the monster skills fill in for ogcd attacks, buffs, and a bar that fills to do the big ones like bad breath or delta. Easy peasy. Slant them supporty, give them trick attack, maybe mighty guard but meh, not much point mechanically. Done, another boring job. SE I expect my check to get here before christmas.
I'll be honest, what I hoped for from Blue Mage before there were any leaks or even rumors was one of two things:
1) A magic "tank" but it would appear we're getting a gunblade tank so that was never likely (doubt SE would do two tanks in one expansion)
2) A sort of inverse Red Mage DPS class where you have a basic set of "weak" melee abilities (magic hammer, goblin punch) that built up your class gauge called something like "Lore". However, instead of just flipping back and unleashing one big Blue Magic finisher you got a buff on your character that would let you spend your Lore to dole out a set of monster skill attacks. Think of it like how Paladin cycles between Fight or Flight melee combo and then Holy Spirit/Requiescat phases but with the added benefit of being able to choose from more than one skill in this phase depending on what you or your party needed. So you might spam damage, you might spend a large chunk on a healing spell, etc. This way not only could the numbers of the spells be tweaked but you could alter their lore cost for balance as well. I dunno, it was just an initial idea, and regardless it looks like we're getting nothing of the sort so a bit of a moot point.
6 days later, still fighting.
I hope someone is reading this thread from the higher ups (or at least being briefed on the reaction of fans) because this triple triad job is a huge mistake.
Positives:
- new and imaginative way for a new job to be introduced.
- solo content is promising and im sure will be fun.
Negatives:
- Level 50 cap hinders the job greatly. You are contained in the small part of the game that was released in 2013. Its a new job that cant be played in the new parts and systems of the game.
- No group content is so limiting in gameplay. This is a n MMO. We play MMOs to enjoy our time with friends, not to play alone.
- the "limited job" concept will affect many other fan favorite jobs in the future if its still a thing.
There must be a way to balance the job and keeping it true to the BLU image you had in mind while making the job. While we dont have the full list of blue magic and their effects yet, im gonna take a shot in the dark at trying to figure a solution.
- Core set of spell categories. Having aoe abilities grouped together for example (could have different typeslike circle on the ground, Around character, line aoe) and you can choose what fits in each fight. Different categories for stuff like buffs and single target abilities
Could be used to fill different roles like being a secondary support in fights that require only 1 healer by shielding and healing as an example for non dps skills. Because obviously people will find the optimal set of spells to deal damage otherwise, but leeway is good when it comes to supporting skills like white wind and mighty guard.
- It was mentioned that elemental effects are part of BLU to deal with the masked Carnivale. Im sure similar abilities with different elemental affinity are present. Grouping similar abilities together and having the choice be from aesthetic pov (BLU Glamour)
- Giving each spell a value based on how strong the ability is, and having a limit at how much value a player can bring with him to party content.
- Its already in place, but doubling down on boss immunities to reduce BLU's effectivness. LV-5 Death was an example given and because its so iconic, you didnt want to remove it from BLU. Im sure using LV-5 on a small enemy in a dungeon while bosses being immune would keep both players and devs happy.
The limitation on such effects can be put on things like hunts, dungeon bosses, raid bosses, Eureka NMs.
There are many ways to work this through. We are ok with BLU being capped at 50 for 4.5. Its not ok to be below level cap at 5.0 though (im sure its too late at this point but still!) The BLU community is willing to work with you SE by providing feedback, ideas, and solutions to any issues you are facing with BLU.
"SE tis I, Unlimit BLU i beg of you" Suzaku 2018.

Yes but right now its restricted to lvl 50 thus only duties from ARR. Which can be unsynched by people already (thus a lvl 50 job would kinda hinder the progress because its not 70) so why would they even take a blue mage with them? Anything higher than that is not within the reach and they said that they will only increase the lvl during Shadowbringer patches thus only sometime in 5.x and even there we dont know if it will reach max lvl at all. Even if it reaches 70 it could still only do old content.
They could have job quests with certain abilities which would then be the rotation of it for instanced content. On top of that give them the ability to get other monster skills on their own but those can only be used outside the instanced content. This way they can take part in every content in the game and at the same time still feel quite fun and overpowered in solo content.
(And just to make sure: I have nothing against the blue mage only duty, it could be really fun, but if that is the only thing that people can work forward to then I wonder how long the job will be interesting.)

I think some people are reading through multiple threads and having knee jerk reactions to the overall vibe they are getting and not to what is being specifically written. Just because you don't like a part of something means you don't like the whole thing; just because you want something to be different doesn't mean it doesn't have merit or potential as it is.
I still think releasing limited combat based jobs are a mistake when they are jobs from previous iterations of the franchise. If they want to create something completely new with no ties to any previous FF, I don't think think there would be much of an issue. But releasing a repeatedly asked for job - so much so that even the developers acknowledge it multiple times in game and out - as something that cannot fully participate in the game is guaranteed to disappoint a section of players.
It's not about the Masked Carnivale or the solo focused approach of the job - it's the fact that you have to jump through extra hoops to be able to group at all. Not letting the job into the roulettes and queues is a ridiculous stipulation that many people have offered well thought out and balanced solutions for. Limit based on abilities learned, abilities equipped, etc. There are a plethora of ways to do it to meet in the middle on this - not to overhaul everything done up to this point, but again, to meet in the middle.
The level limit of 50 at the start, I can deal with that - as long as it catches up to the current level cap relatively soon... Say with the release of SH or soon thereafter. I don't think that is their intention, though, but that is an assumption.
There are currently 15 jobs in game. 15. If we are correct in that there are 2 full jobs coming, plus the one limited with 4.5, then that puts the total to 17 full jobs and one limited.
17 jobs, and one exception.
So the higher content is for these 17 jobs, but not this one.
I don't believe for one second if Dark Knight had been released as a limited job with HW that a bunch of people wouldn't have flipped out WAY more about it than the discussion happening now.
I would derive as much if not more entertainment from the drk whines. It would be very in flavor for the class to be honest.
I will serious post for a moment here. The Masked Carnivale and solo content is only interesting specifically because of the limited nature of the job. If they had done this job in the way that everyone not a complete fool knows they would have done it if that was the route they were going with (i.e. hard locked to a role, half the announced skills with the same progression as everyone else) then they wouldn't be able to do anything at all interesting with the carnival. You would be limited to a cookie cutter ranged dps build and there is only so much design space to work with there.
Since the job is limited, and explicitly not usable in roulettes, they don't have to give a single care about balance. They can get real weird with their ability choices. And more importantly, they can get real difficult. If shiva's ice bow is a powerful attack you are crippled by not having, then they have to make that solo instance easy enough for just about everyone to get through if this job interacts with all the content the same as everything else, or else it becomes a giant albatross. Since it's some weird side job that already isn't going to be doing the usual content paths, they are free to get wild.
Will they? Too difficult to say. It's possible the whole thing is just a tiresome grind for low chance ability learns and the solo dungeons aren't any more challenging than they typically are. In which case I will turn on this as hard as I turned on Eureka. What absolutely was never in the cards though was some weird middle ground where you get to pick your skills and have this side learning thing and still do all the content, because none of those things work together in anyone's favor except for the people who just want to be a blu no matter what.
