For scaling, it would be interesting if the FFXIV team could take a peek at the code for WoW's scaling system, not for the open zones, but for timewalking dungeons. While it isn't anywhere close to perfectly balanced to when you were at that level, it does work in its way to let you use your abilities while letting lower level players play along side you. It scales you down, but it doesn't remove your abilities.

Currently, the only way to sort of achieve what the OP wants is to buy gear level appropriate for the dungeon and tick the Ilvl button in the settings.

No, Minimum IL setting forces level sync.

It does? Damn, figured it just locked Ilvl down, not actual level (Haven't actually used that setting myself).

Thanks for clarifying that for me though.

So you want to play exactly the same in every instance in the whole game? That sounds far more boring than losing some skills in dungeons too low to need them. I'm only 50, so only see it in leveling dungeons, but I like the fact that I have to adjust my gameplay to suit where I'm at. It helps the various dungeons feel different.

I actually don't run content below 70 because of that. I'm so happy with my full kit, and I remember doing Sastasha with a Samurai. It just does not make sense for most jobs to go back to that early stages. Of course dungeons were useful in leveling, mastering job skill and overall gameplay. But I won't do it again for 20 tomestones and 1 000 gils.
Maybe the Trust system will help on that aspect, if the dungeons are more and more deserted.

    This.

I worked hard for my level 70, and then spent gil (because I don’t believe in crafting) and bought ilvl 380 gear, and decked it out in Materia. (Yeah, yeah...that’s probably not much of an achievement for most), but now when I log in, I don’t need to do the level 70 dungeons, instead I farm the roulettes and don’t get to experience my leveled up, decked out Dark Knight...

I want to be able to play with my full rotation (TBN is a huge game changer), and I won’t lie, sometimes, I want to /flex a little some times, otherwise, it’s like no matter how much gear/Materia I get, I’m always the same, I want to feel more powerful..lol

Funny thing about trying to "balance" end game players and skills to just make them the same as at-level players, is with the access to all the buffs you get as you level, skills would need to be nerfed even lower, just so being buffed puts you on par. Which then requires players to actually play their jobs correctly.

Now, imagine getting synced into a dungeon with a player that isn't actually that competent, failing to keep their buffs active. Suddenly, the run is taking even longer, because they're nerfed into the ground with the expectation that they can buff themselves into normality, but they're not.

At least with the current system, bad players in synced dungeons aren't necessarily completely dead weight.

It would be nice but it's not really something that can be easily scaled. Because it's not just a simple matter of scaling potency. You have more sources of damage, more sources of sustained damage like dots, more OGCD abilities to weave, more mechanics to keep going that boost damage, harder hitting abilities etc, that unlock at higher levels.

So trying to balance all that so that you can keep those abilities while still having the right damage output for the level across all the different dungeons at different levels for every job would be nuts.
