No thanks, aether and primal can stay west coast.
Ill gladly switch to the new data center and so will 95% of my fc if its on the east coast, but it won't happen, I already know they will keep all 3 in cali because of this beautiful lie they told us over a year ago.

I mean cool, continue to screw over east coasters on those DCs who also have friends on the west coast, because it's completely normal for mmos to have communities span a continent. No thanks, aether and primal can stay west coast.

Or we can compromise like every other MMO and place the servers in texas or somewhere close to the center of the continent.
Not to mention that this dramatic delay is an XIV problem specifically. I live on the east coast, and every other mmo I play has me at 40-120ms on average play with virtually no feelings of delay. None of these games have servers on the east coast.
Not nearly enough houses will open up even if we're being generous. Bear in mind, a lot of people still have multiple houses due to the whole grandfather system. Which segues to my next point...
If they're smart... they will add additional wards alongside what looks to be Ishgard housing. Furthermore, I would like to see them remove the aforementioned grandfathering and officially make housing locked to one personal and a FC. This would mitigate at least some of that pain. If they offer nothing but 80% compensation for your house (this should be increased to 100% btw), then they deserve a fair amount of backlash.Leviathan too. Population is heavily lopsided on NA servers so they probably want to bust that up (for good reason). I expect a lot of pain and complaints when the details are announced. It sucks when your friend circles are broken up so I hope SE is ready to ease the pain if they try to even out the population by shuffling the servers around. The community might not recover if they handle it poorly.
Good thing I don't have friends on the west coast then. since I don't play on BalmungI mean cool, continue to screw over east coasters on those DCs who also have friends on the west coast, because it's completely normal for mmos to have communities span a continent.

Chicago would actually have been for the best a year ago, but now I would rather have an east data center if they are going to make a new one.
Either way is fine really, just don't keep them in Cali. But they will because I have no faith in them.
Right. If they'd worked on instanced housing long before this, then this wouldn't be a huge issue. Maybe they'll surprise everyone and implement that as well.
I used to be an adventurer, but then my ping increased.
I was just talking about that with a friend in Discord. This would be the perfect time to abandon the archaic ward system that just isn't working. Sadly, we know they aren't going to.
I could actually see this data center thing all working better with world visit, free transfers and instanced housing. As it stands right now, though, it's a hard sell any way you look at it. Definitely going to shake things up.
On a side note... The mention of farms makes me hopeful they may have looked into FFXI's instanced island feature. (Wishful thinking.)

I thought they said additional data centers, not just moving them. It's heresy no east coast servers yet.
To be fair, there's plenty of reason for another datacentre even without putting it in a different location - shift them around so that you don't have most of the populated worlds on one datacentre, and lighten the load a little by shifting a couple from each and adding a couple of worlds to the new one. Less load on the actual hardware.
I’ll have to find a new static if they split Balmung and Cactuar... Pretty worried about this to be honest, because I’ve finally found a static that I really like and get along well with.
That’s out of the question for anyone who doesn’t want to lose their housing on their home server, or who don’t want to lose their other friends from their home server. For me, a transfer is out of the question because I’d lose contact with my friends that got me started in this game and I would lose my housing...
