The issue with that is housing. You may be forced to give up your house because half your static is on another server. And in this game, getting another will be almost impossible.

I don't entirely see that as an issue. As people will likely be leaving the world as you come in to rejoin your static. So, I can see houses opening up on worlds as people keep shifting around till their static is together again.

But it's not guaranteed, and people are very risk adverse...

There will be total chaos for sure when it's implemented as I'm reminded of the server merges in FF11.

Right. If they'd worked on instanced housing long before this, then this wouldn't be a huge issue. Maybe they'll surprise everyone and implement that as well.

I was just talking about that with a friend in Discord. This would be the perfect time to abandon the archaic ward system that just isn't working. Sadly, we know they aren't going to.

I could actually see this data center thing all working better with world visit, free transfers and instanced housing. As it stands right now, though, it's a hard sell any way you look at it. Definitely going to shake things up.
On a side note... The mention of farms makes me hopeful they may have looked into FFXI's instanced island feature. (Wishful thinking.)
