Abnormally high latency from EU to NA

    Hi everyone ,

I decided to resub to XIv only one week ago since I quit the game in August but for some reason my latency has been so terribly high it doesn't allow me to play at all.
To be more specific...as an european player on a NA datacenter I used to be getting around 150-200 ms while now I've been getting 1000+ ms consistently ever since I resubbed.
Needless to say, I tried various different fixes such as trying to restart my modem , check if my net card drivers were updated and I even contacted my IP company to ask them for assistance....the result ? No issues on my end nor on the national net.
I then tried using a VPN but it didn't solve the problem....so I pretty much ran out of ideas.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue ? Any idea of what could be the cause ?
The connection works more than fine on any other game's NA datacenters ( Tera , BDO , BnS , WF , ecc... ) but not on XIV's . I should also add that it actually gets stable if I plug in the ethernet cable but that not only I never needed to use it so far but I also can not keep on using mine as it's a 20 m cable that would constantly be running around my apartment.

Are you using wifi? If so, I can tell you my modem is less than 6 meters next to my laptop and the game is unplayable.
If yes, then yeah you need to use a cable. :x

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

It sounds like the wireless connection may be the issue. When you connect it with an Ethernet cable, the latency is within the normal range (150-200 ms), correct? Since you are connecting to the NA Data Center from Europe, there will naturally be a little lag and it looks like this wireless connection is exacerbating it. If you didn't have issues when you played before, there must have been a change in your connection. Do you recall anything changing on your PC or your connection since you stopped playing in August?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

    Hi, pardon the late reply..
Yes, when I connect by using an ethernet cable my latency is normal ( 150-200 ms ) while when I'm using wi-fi it gets abnormally high ( as I said I always used to play by using wi-fi before and still managed to get a similar ping to the one I now have by using cabled connection ) and spikes up to 1000+ ms to just sit there and not go down for entire dozens of minutes.
I didn't change anything with my connection since august but I did format my PC in the meanwhile ( since I was getting some windows related broken registry file error ) ; I still made sure to re-install each and every driver though so I don't think my net card is the problem here ( unless it totally broke ? But it could be the modem too at this point...I have no idea...) . I also tried contacting my ISP and they confirmed me the connection appearently works fine so I don't know whether this could be a routing issue , a hardware issue , a software issue with my pc or of anything broke in between me and xiv's servers.
I only know that I've now been trying to deal with this for about 2-3 weeks so far and it doesn't help that I'm paying for a subscription I basically can not use.

    Thank you for the reply!

Your ISP may have just pinged to the computer or your IP address. There maybe something interfering with the connection between your computer and the server.

    Hope to see you online!
