How you guys find inspiration for Miqo'te names?

When following the name conventions of Seeker or Keepers, there are still the many "weird" name patterns from Miqo'te. My character is a suncat, but I honestly can't find a good place to draw inspiration to make it...

Wanted it to follow the name convention, but also wanted the name to sound nice after the tribe letter, and not like some tongue-twister.

    any suggestions?

Someone made a list of all the names in the name generator. I usually go off of that and for the Seekers switch around the Tribal Letter for all the Forenames and sometimes add a Tribal letter to Female Surnames to make new Male Forenames. I'll make new Female Surnames by removing the Tribal Letter from the Male Forenames

For the Keepers, I'll swap around the suffix for the Male Forenames and make new Female Forenames by taking the suffix off the Male Forenames.

The lists also give a good idea of what typical sounds are used in names so you can make up names that don't stick out too much. The Race Naming Conventions Thread shows how all the different naming conventions are linked to each other.

A while ago I'd started making a list of all the Sunseeker NPCs with the intent of seeing whether it would reveal where tribes are located. I've now integrated that with the list that ObsidianFire linked to, so here's a fairly comprehensive list of Sunseeker names (and characters) in the game. I may have missed some though.

I've manually ordered them by actual name, not tribe letter - but left the letters so you can see which combinations are already in use.

    ---

Slipping in many years later to add that as I continue to work on this overly extensive name list project, I have a particular dislike for the "fantasy name generators" site linked above. Most of the names seem to have been invented by the creator of the generator and they often sound wrong to me - usually overelaborate and with too many syllables.

The lists above need updating, but hopefully soon I will be able to switch them out for a link to an updated list.

For what it's worth, I named my sunseeker miqo'te alt C'lafhina, after the popular Japanese vocal group, Kalafina. According to the race naming conventions, the miqo'te tribe letters do have a vowel sound, hence the reason that C'lafhina is pronounced kah-la-fina, and Y'shtola is actually yash-toh-la, and not yish-toh-lah. It's a pet peeves of mine that the English voice track mis-pronounces the Scion's name.

I think it's because English can mash together consonant sounds in a way you just can't do in Japanese. And to make matters worse, "Y" can be treated like a vowel in English. So in Y'shtola's case, (and probably all the Y Tribe names) Y looks like it should be treated as vowel, especially when there's three consonants right after each other. If there's nothing in the tribe names that suggests there's another vowel after the Y, then there's no vowel there. Or at least, if that's what the ' is for, that should be made more clear in-game.

One of the things I find myself doing is pairing Miquote name roots that start with a vowel with Tribe letters that are consonants and vice versa. Those end up being a lot easier to pronounce in my head.

I actually found a name that I really liked: Surya'to Mhaskoba. That is a Keeper name, though and he is a Seeker.

I just came up with the story that he was a sun kitty adopted by a moon kitty mother.

Why I didn't simply choose a Keeper, then? Because I really love how bright the Seeker eyes are, and the skin shade I really like is also Seeker only.

I went back and re-edited that list of names I posted yesterday, to delete out all the extra notes in the basic name lists and make them more readable. You can cross-check against the third list of characters by tribe if you want to know the other information.

I could sort of see a "short Yah" sound (as instructed in the naming conventions page) being compressed into "Yh" and then attached to the "sh" part of the syllable it could come out something like "Esh"...

How do the writers pronounce it in interviews? And how is it spelt in Japanese?

One of my first alts from back in 2014 was a male Miqo'te who I simply named and based him of G'raha Tia (you'll find him at Saint Coinach's Find during the Crystal Tower arc).
