SAM Job Quests Too Overtuned

You see these threads from time to time. Class changes(ive seen this exact complaint for at least half the classes in game, maybe more), but the gist is the same. "I cant complete some specific solo duty, therefore its impossible(either for my class or in general)." They test these quests at minimum level and using reasonable gear(if not less). The answer half the time is pay more attention and do what the fight needs you to do script wise to win(kill x before y, keep the healer npc up, etc), the other half of the time the answer is that the player in question isnt using enough of their kit properly and needs to learn their class better. OP, i havent leveled SAM so i couldnt tell you which answer is the right one in your case but i would bet a lot that its one or the other. I see level 70 SAM all the time, and they certainly didnt all by level skips to clear these quests.

Its also possible that you have a mental block regarding proper play for this class and that something else would be a better fit. Some people do better at X then Y(for instance: im a more natural for mage play then melee play - i can do melee, but everything feels backwards to me and i need to fight my natural instincts to do things right), and finding your ideal class often makes everything easier.

You are in item lvl 144 at lvl 60? That explains your issue...

You can be in gear more than 100 ilvls higher.

I also wonder what you mean by "crazy ilvl" gear for the lvl 54 quest. Cuz if you are in i144 gear at 60, you must have been below i100 at 54.

I wasn't aware that there was gear that much higher, I've just been using the gear from quests. How do I acquire better gear?

Go to Idllyshire and talk with Hismena. She sells i260 Shire gear, which you can subsequently upgrade to i270 by purchasing Illuminati Deepest/Tautest/Darkest items. i270 will carry you to level 63-64, but I do advise upgrading before you reach the level 65 dungeon as stuff has much higher HP around this point.

I got the gear, and finished the quest in one try, staying above 50% health the whole time. Thanks for the advice.

I have to say that SAM 54 is by far the hardest solo quest I've seen in this game (where I am FAR from an expert at all), RIFT or WOW which I played for several years - it's stupidly overturned, has an NPC doing the wrong things at the wrong time and no space to move.....

The way of the Samurai code of bushido is not to be taken lightly... and if you thought that solo quest was difficult, I invite you to try certain FFXI quests.
