The OP is mad that someone in their group won a loot roll?

... so did they expect people to just pass on everything for them? That feels pretty entitled to me.

Any time I do Normals with a partial premade we unanimously consider it a victory if someone in our group gets loot as opposed to the pugs. It means potentially one less run of it that week. Also your friend won something, why you would be mad about that just confuses me.

Even if I've gotten the v3 loot as well by that point.
And then you got to the one stage where you did need the loot, and expected priority over the loot for a reason not everyone agrees on. When you didn't get it, you quit the party because you were so upset over it. My, what a saint

Why is it dickish because he didn't have the same purpose in going through the run as you? It would have been ok for him to be rewarded for his contribution if he'd needed what you needed, but because he didn't want the same thing he can't have anything? That feels really selfish.

Don't conflate video game and real world. Sure, it would be terrible for someone to take money out of a starving person's wallet to buy random junk when the other person needs food, but this is 1) a game and 2) you deciding that your ilvl is more important than what their goals in the game. It doesn't even matter what they're doing with the money - they did the effort the same as you, and had every right to need, same as you. And it's not even as if the bolt gets you much - an accessory runs at less than a week's Genesis and in most places under 300k on the market board.

If he'd agreed to run it for you to get your item and then had rolled anyway, I might consider that going against etiquette, because he went against his word. Otherwise, no. Your wants in the game do not trump others' wants for doing the same content.

There are a lot of outdated MMO "loot etiquette" rules floating around, and what you brought up is one of them, OP. If the player participated in the kill, they are allowed to roll need on anything that they are eligible for. Your perceived need is not greater than another's, regardless of what they intend to use it for. Now if this is unacceptable, blame should be forwarded to S-E for allowing the same token to be exchanged for gear and items that can be sold on the market board.

If the button lights up, people are going to push it. Assuming anything else is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Especially in an auto matching situation like DF.

In PF, you can make your own rules and sometimes people do get kicked out of preformed parties due to not meeting requirements or doing something frowned upon.

In DF, anything goes though if the game itself allows it.

I'd actually be more annoyed at SE for having a bolt turn in (you actually need two to get a roll) when they are annoying to get as it is.

This. The bolts are already the most useful part for a number of reasons (five of them needed for a full set; you only need one to get an item; you can't wear two scaevan rings), and then SE decides that this is the one part they want to use as the currency for orchestrion rolls too? Meanwhile I've seen pedals rot because no one wanted them.

...its not like the Alphascape NM jewerly would be the only ilvl380 stuff though - you can get crafted gear without much trouble (from the market board, selfmade, commissioned by a crafter - seriously... no one in my FC has to run Alpha to get gear-upgrades, because we have enough crafters around who can make them.)

And you can upgrade one Scaevan ring to ilvl400 and then buy a second one. Just need to clear O10S. (And by clearing O9S you'll also have a shot at more ilvl400 stuff)
Oh... you dont raid, you say? Then you dont need that ilvl anyways. For dungeons you're perfectly fine with ilvl370 or even 360 stuff. Even for EX-primals you're fine with wearing an ilvl370 ring.

You most likely dont even want the full set from AlphaNM - if you're so concercend about ilvl and people outrolling you on loot you "need", you should actually first check wether or not you do, aka what substats your job wants and if you get those on the NM, crafted or tomestone piece (...or the Savage-one, if you do raid after all).
I find it difficult to take someone serious who blindly claims that they need all those drops and doesnt bother to check if those are actually good for their job and "semi BiS" (so to speak).

...maybe your friend was clever enough to do that and now wants the money to buy gear thats actually good for his class... regardless of wether or not he spends the gil on gear or on virtual hookers (...yes, there are PFs for that from time to time...) as long as he did his fair share of the fight, he deserved his fair share of the loot - which means in this context rolling on it and potentially winning it. What he spends it on, doesnt matter.

Way to put words in my mouth. True, I'm not currently doing alpha savage. Our FC can't currently field a full party and based on the amounts of fail I've seen in normal alphas I'm not inclined to try savages with randoms. My friends share this sentiment. We have some recent recruits so hopefully at some points we will have enough active members. It remains to be seen if that happens before the next expansion or not.

Admittedly I hadn't done that at the time this little spat happened, but I did it afterwards and found out that I actually did need one more bolt. Which I got this morning. So no more bolt-related drama for me.

To be fair, it's drama you created yourself. At least this particular case.
