Surprised? Really? Vindictus has been out for a long while now. If it wasn't for the lack of content and interesting systems outside of combat I'd have never left that game. I will be interested to see how TERA goes about utilizing the systems they have in place to adapt that kind of combat flow to an open-world setting (whereas the Vindictus design was based on a linear model).

TERA is an MMO, just like FFXIV is. Their entire business model built on filler content and Skinner Boxes. The wallpaper and paint job is different and there's some new toys laid out to have fun with but the rate of player consumption cannot keep up with the developer's ability to implement new stuff and PvP is a stagnating Möbius strip of content (birds fly, cows moo, and MMO-players complain about PvP imbalance on top of that).

Im in the tera beta. Teras battle mechanics are nice. Thats about all it has going for it.

Tera has no endgame. Even in the Korean version, they have nothing to do but pvp.

A LS member has a max rank character on Korean Tera. He got bored and thats why he plays FFXIV.

So Tera is not the MMO killer you think its going to be.

That's relieving. Hope it stays that way xD
    Go go FFXIV Endgame!

One could hope that isolated occurrence represents the entirety of TERA's player base. Then we won't have ppl running from XIV xD

You've acknowledged that they are 2 different games. In the heart of it that really is the major factor here. As for what FFXIV needs, it's 2.0. Until then everything really is only filler content. The reason they've been working on 2.0 is because they know they won't be able to make a quality MMO out of their current engine.

TERA looks awesome. I hear a lot of good things about it and I applied for the beta myself to no luck. I've watched plenty of vids out of genuine curiosity though. One thing to note though, that the lack of players in game these days and in the pst couple weeks can at least partially be attributed to the release of XIII-2. Though many players avoided it outright due to the stigma associated with XIII, or because they themselves did not enjoy the prequel, XIII-2 is quite the solid game as far as an FF iteration goes and has been popular with the people who played it. I know I've been absent because of it as well as a number of players from my circle of friends in game.

Ultimately though, I feel like the difference in gameplay will be a major deciding factor for lots of people. I'm also sure a lot of current FFXIV players will know to at least wait and see how 2.0 is before they make a decision on which MMO to stick by.

One thing I say though, is I can only hope that TERA is very successful - as the competition can lead to a great future for both games.

    Agreed. Competition is good.

Agreed. We should all see what 2.0 actually is.
Im worried SE is overselling 2.0
    It's not beyond reality.

Fair enough. It's to be the pivotal point in FFXIV - it will determine the success of the MMO and it's future. SE's got to sell it - and sell it well.

As a consumer all I'm doing is checking what they've got to offer, keeping track of their plans, and deciding for myself whether I find it interesting or not.

Nobody can argue against it being the most important milestone in the foreseeable future of XIV though.

Hmm... True. I hope FFXIV succeeds. So I won't feel like all this Gil I've been accumulating and having accomplished nearly everything to date wasn't a waste.

Thanks for the positive posts Noctis. Been awhile since we talked and I respect your views as always. Good to see other posters that aren't posting for count+ or just to troll threads that others took the time to originate.

    Wish you well :3

TERA seem to want to target horny kids o.o every video i see it's just half nude Mage dancing to cast spells lol. Sadly i saw the gameplay of tera and i did not like it. You can't really compare FFXIV with a game like Tera maybe FFXI or FFXIV but like someone else tera it looking at other type of players.

Tera's idea is not that new... there is a similar game called Dragon Nest are using exactly same battle style.
I played that for a while, but it's really not for me since I get motion sickness easily. XD (sometimes even when I ride choco, in XI or XIV, and stare at screen too long, I'll get dizzy too.)
I didn't see Dragon Nest doing well tho... similar graphics (dragon was 3 years ago), battle style... just Dragon Nest doesn't have animal char and are all instant based... at least in my first 3 days of dizziness playing experience.
I do see it's potential, but it's really back to personal preference... it's really tiring to smashing buttons all the time...
