Which you're welcome to do just as the players who don't enjoy it are welcome to express their opinions to SE.
Though for someone who claims to enjoy it, I'm a bit confused on why you associate it with pain.
mas·och·ism
/ˈmasəˌkizəm,ˈmazəˌkizəm/
noun
the tendency to derive pleasure, especially sexual gratification, from one's own pain or humiliation.
- (in general use) the enjoyment of what appears to be painful or tiresome.
"isn't there some masochism involved in taking on this kind of project?"
The last zone is probably too far along at this point to just can it. Their dev cycle is probably 2-3 months ahead of actual releases so 4.5 is most likely close or heading to QA/the last zone is almost done at this point and they are shifting more people toward expansion development.
Churning out an expansion in 5 months after last major patch is pretty quick by MMO standards (They've done this twice already, perhaps it might take longer this time?) so I'm guessing they start working on it way ahead of time. They dropped the last Ultimate since they probably need the fight designer for one of the 2 EX primals they usually release, to start working on the new expansion raid or maybe even the first Ultimate for 5.0. Maybe the expansion will have radically different stuff this time but I doubt it.
Eureka in comparison has simple mechanics and mostly just interact with the scaling system already in place since Anemos that are mostly copy and paste from previous stuff so they don't really need an encounter designer for those.
Just hope their new never before seen content/Diadem 3.0 in 5.0 isn't Eureka but in space or something.

It will be under water with horrible slow movements, krakens that will one shot you if you dont do a certain thing and to have people even go into this they will put blitzball behind it but like LoV and other content it will be reinvented again and truly not that fun.
@OP: I believe that we will still get the last part of Eureka (lets just pray that not even more items will be put behind this...) but I really hope that they finally listen to the players and not just create Diadem 4.0...
Well I would not call it widely considered decent. We had a huge thread about this when it was released with people discussing Anemos and a lot of it was negative. Even with the train a lot of people still did not like it and others stated that they only like it because they can socialize or that the train makes it bearable. Thats imo not decent. We also had JP posts with over 100 likes that called it dirt. So even there quite some people did not truly like it. We had one poll on reddit (which was made in favor for Anemos since it had two positive and one negative options) and even still only a small amount truly liked it and more found it "meh its okay" and I think around 30% outright took the option that they hate it. And this with a poll that was not even great at all.Anemos is widely considered decent. Most people complaining about Eureka are referring to Pagos, which took considerably longer and forced a very boring grind. I did it as a group but killing hundreds of brain dead trash mobs with zero mechanics isn't what I call fun nor did the friends accompanying me. You're talking to someone with multiple Animas (before nerfs), Savage clears, Ultimate and grind heavy achievements. I have no issues with grinds. I have issue with boring, unimaginative grinds. Pyros may be better but I have to slog through Pagos to even see it.

This is not how development works. Development has started since 4.0 was released. As the release date approaches they add more and more of their team to work on finishing it. So no, they do not "churn out" an expansion in a mere 5 months.Churning out an expansion in 5 months after last major patch is pretty quick by MMO standards (They've done this twice already, perhaps it might take longer this time?) so I'm guessing they start working on it way ahead of time. Did you actually read the rest of the sentence you bolded?

It IS an MMO. If people want to do the content, they can grab a group of friends and hop in. Thats what I've been doing with Anemos. I have 2 friends that absolutely refused to do it after they stepped in and killed a couple mobs by themselves.
They actually enjoy it now when we've been doing it as a group.
I also think some people go in with the mindset of "this is a grind, I hate grinds, I hate this."

I like the grind if it's meaningful, but relics mean almost nothing in the grand scheme of this game. XI's grind and relics amounted to more and lasting results, and if you make it through anemos I will be rooting for you guys, BUT I will be very (pleasantly) surprised if you get past pagos with them at this stage, also don't forget to try out bunnies for your o-hat and get your cassie earring, fun times ^_-.It IS an MMO. "It must be a thursday, I could never get the hang of thursdays."

I actually really enjoyed Anemos—although, only with friends. It was boring as sin solo. I went into Pagos with friends. Hated every second of it and I haven’t gone back. So “go with friends” doesn’t always work.It IS an MMO. If people want to do the content, they can grab a group of friends and hop in. Thats what I've been doing with Anemos. I’m going to repeat something I said before to someone who said something like this:
Sage | Astrologian | Dancer
마지막 날 널 찾아가면
마지막 밤 기억하길
Hyomin Park#0055
