I actually thought it had been locked weeks ago, but then I had an old buddy show up on an alt yesterday. Lasted longer than I expected.![]()

Shrug.
It was pretty much expected that Balmung would have to close again in the not-too-distant future, so I doubt anybody is surprised.
It actually took longer than most people expected, which I suppose is a good thing.

Now if only it could be locked to people leaving too :P
Thing is, I wonder how permanent this thing'll be. Not saying it'll open up tomorrow, but servers seem to be going in and out of Congested states every so often. Wonder if they'll reopen it once they get rid of some of the bots that came back.
Given some of the past comments from players on the server about how things get stale without some "fresh blood", I would imagine it will be 6 months off, one month on type situation.
Mateus being an established alternative to Balmung helps considerably. We'll likely see a lot of give and take. If Mateus and Balmung happen to be locked at the same time then Zalera is likely going to fulfill the niche of the 'overflow' server for role-players much in the same way as Mateus did for Balmung when the lock first went into place. Zalera, like Mateus back in the day, is the quietest of the servers in the Aether server cluster...to my knowledge, anyway.

Pretty much my take on it as well. With Mateus existing there's a lot less incentive for people to flood Balmung and a lot less anger when inevitably a lot of the spots are taken by RMT bots as is always the case. Eventually there might come a day when Balmung is open more often than not, but the current trend is a good thing in my eyes.Mateus being an established alternative to Balmung helps considerably. Really? I hate it when it gets locked. It ruins the server.
