    Here is an example to help with the concept of linearity and stat caps:



    That is a graph of Lancer auto-attack and the influence of STR. Somewhere around 285-290 you can clearly see a change in the slope. All the damage bonus from 290+ STR is from the ~2:3 ATK:STR ratio. The bonus from STR itself caps around 290 and that is why you see a change in slope.

    Im gonna be completely honest... I really enjoyed your threads on Archer and Lancer....
    That, along with Kaeoko's enmity, healing and magic evasion tests are some of the most compelling reading I've seen on FFXIV... not even being sarcastic... dead serious

    Why would you nerf materia?? What type of materia would you nerf?
    My HP is 4000 with full party bonus on my tank.... 70 Tier IV Bloodthirst is far from OP....
    My DEF is over 800... So 20 defense on the highest Tier IV Bloodwall is FAR FAR from OP
    My Buddy Shizuo's MP is like 3400 when he main heals....The highest Manathirst is what? 35 MP.... Thats 1 percent of his total... 1 percent... that is OP to you?

    You should really read Kaeko's blog... we disagree on a thing or 2 here now... but his Blogs and Seikens threads are spot on... Methodology, data...

    This thread should be a petition to lower stats. XI had an awesome system. A 1 tic refresh was godly. A 1 tic man. That's stats that really matters.

    I want a good reason to upgrade my equipment.

    In fact weapon "Damage Output" is by far the most important stat for figuring your damage.
    So a materia that adds a 6 percent increase to the stat that isn't even the most important stat when calculating damage dealt...
    A Tier IV Heaven's Fist is actually pretty paltry overall

    Materia doesn't necessarily need to be lowered, if they reduce base stats and gear is adjusted to compensate for the difference, materia would still work in much the same way.

    Something like reduce base stats by 50-75% and increase gear stats in-line with it, stats would be pretty much the same at lvl 50 in both cases, but a player wearing incorrect or low level gear would see a much bigger lose in stats.

    This is not true. This is back to what Kaeko was saying in that so much is situational. Base DMG is important in the sense that it cannot be made up with really any other stat. Attributes affecting AA are increased when those stats push against or over mobs VIT (see above chart on Attribute Thresholds).

    What we have after attributes are capped against your target (which the cap changes based on MOB LV) it more so becomes attack power dependent. Your AA and WS attributes are supporting roles to your attack power. You need to get over that VIT wall in order to have attack proficiently combat mob DEF. Everything is situational as this changes based on VIT rating. Moogles are generally pretty low. Ifrit's is pretty high.
