Don't get me wrong, I don't think FF8 was trash. But it was the weakest mainline FF. Bear in mind, you also have FF15 to contend with now for realism.
Yes all theses parts, as a teenager, as technology moved forward with graphics & what not,the jump from ff7 graphical look (on gameplay not cutscenes necessarily) to ff8,the storyline felt much more adult with the graphic design & there was an actual empathy toward the characters for me at the very least, I felt like scenarios were similar to rl in that game at times ;P Also a witch, a spaceship & a sniper is kinda realistic versus some of the never ending coma/headaches moments we get with like,go get me a wine bottle WoL atm in ff14.Ffviii is one of the rare final fantasys where i have not succeeded beating the secret boss (Omega in this case) and that is because holy wars were gated behind triple triads & i lost the 99% completed game i had saved with a failure at discovering the third pupu ovni for the card & I also did not use the open disc tray cheat to stop Zell special attack combos… but my point is… There is even a lot people that have seen this movie >>>>

& most have no clue that the movie is based upon viii (unless im mistaken,,,) I thought movie wasnt too good when I've first seen it, but then ive seen FFVII advent children later on & way later i realized that the spirit within story was based onto ff8 & as ive grown up I finally thought it is not a bad movie at all, I actually like it more than advent children.

P.s: I refuse to touch ff15 for a long time.

It had nothing to do with the Final Fantasy franchise whatsoever except for its name. No relation to the games. Partly why some have considered it a bit of a failure. It was named "Final Fantasy" but it certainly didn't look or sound like one. At best it was sci fi action thriller.

I'd say it took more from FF VII... with a direct inspiration from the Lifestream to create "Gaia".
You also have the root of the problem being a crashed meteor, and a big cannon to shoot the crater impact, etc...

They continued to call it Final Fantasy because Square had no faith that anything not called Final Fantasy would succeed in the US (see also: SaGa games called FF Legends or the first Seiken Densetsu being called FF Adventure). They also had nothing better to call it once it was done and the marketing had to begin.

Oh, late 90s and early 2000s... Good times, those. <_<

To be fair, in Japan, Seiken Densentu is actually subtitled "Final Fantasy Gaiden".

Because you're unwilling or unable to get the single weapon that outdoes it? While it hasn't been the case for Eureka weapons, for relics in general, this justifies the grind. Relics are typically the second-best weapon in the game, and by expansion's end are at times flat-out the best weapon. Several ARR and HW relics surpassed their Raid counterparts due to having better native stats as well as customization stats. Even disregarding that, many raiders pounded out a relic weapon to aid with progression through the raids.

That said, I agree the Eureka weapons are lagging behind where they should be, and I suspect this is because the content itself appeared later than SE originally planned. Every second patch cycle, the relic SHOULD wind up at an ilvl just 5 levels below the raid weapon (and in the final half of the final patch, it should MATCH the raid weapon), but this so far has not been the case in Eureka. Even so, that just means they messed up the Eureka weapon, not that the relic grind in general is unjustified. (It's also not too late for the Eureka relic to catch up; there will likely be a fourth Eureka zone in 4.5, after all.)

Eh, they had a few nods to Final Fantasy in there. Collect the Elemental McGuffins. Some guy named Cid (okay, "Sid"). Catastrophe caused by a meteor. Overall, though, the plot played out a lot more like an overly fancy-pants take on Aliens, with a dwindling team of military folks with barely fleshed-out personalities trying to hold out against ridiculously dangerous aliens. Was definitely a disappointment, even if it was a breathtaking work of art, from a technical perspective.
