Trying to understand the negative posts I keep seeing about the Dev Team

There in lies why you do not see the problems. This game is great and fantastic for new players. Its veteran retention that is the problem. Once you are around for awhile you will begin to see the pattern and realize you are just doing the same thing now you've done for every patch, just with a different skin.

Besides,are you implying that the opinion of newcomers is somehow less valid than that of a veteran?Cuz theirs are just as important as veterans cuz if new players are looked down upon here then that's gonna make the community very stale and stagnant.You can't just cater to just the current players and ignore everything the newcomers say.

And just to reflect on some of the points some said before where some people say feedbacks can only be negative.....that's not how critcism works

Cuz criticism involves stating what worked alongside what didn't work not just an abundant influx of the latter.Otherwise it goes from constructive criticism into toxicity that pushes people away

As for things feeling formulaic......that's literally every long running game out there and it's not just something that happens only in XIV,WoW or any other MMOs,it happens all the time and it's felt more when people play one game only for an extensive amount of time especially since RPGs,MMOs or not,are a grind-heavy genre by nature

I'm not gonna go any further into this topic since there are stuff I'm not yet qualified to talk about but let me say this

I might be a very vanilla boring gamer who rarely involves himself in the "meta" of any game(the only meta I involved myself in was for competitive Pokemon and that's it) as I usually play the games I have to have fun and unwind from the daily stress of my job and my MA degree studies in college,but that doesn't mean my and other casual people's opinions are worthless just because we're "filthy casuals" in the eye of some people

I do see the problems and I acknowledge their existence even if I'm passive about it,it's just I'm not in the mental state that allows me to complain as much as I used to be since I started struggling with chronic depression last year.Not saying that those who complains are wrong,it's just I only agree with a few and I'm just not in the mood for it be it for XIV or other things.

Personally if I get burned out on XIV,I'll do the same thing I did with other games,take a break and play something else then maybe come back later.There is nothing wrong with putting the game down for a couple of days,weeks or even months if I need to cuz that in itself sends a message even if it isn't as obvious as posting on forums and social media.

Finally,this is gonna be my last post on the Lodestone forums for a while.I don't think I'm contributing much here considering the environment and even when I do it usually ends up being very meaningless or making people mad at me....and I learned that the hard way from my last thread about Zenos since it seems like saying anything good about Stormblood is a big no-no

I don’t think that you should not post on the forums due to receiving some backlash — I can’t specifically speak on it because I haven’t read your thread on Zenos, but I don’t think it’s a crime to try and find positives about Stormblood. While I feel like the expansion is a reskinned Heavensward, and I do have my own series of complaints about it, I do offer praise about some of the things it has introduced: Ultimate was amazing, I really love Alphascape as a tier, V12 may be my absolute favorite Savage fight, BRD AF gear this expansion is probably the most gorgeous ever released for the job (same with AST), etc..

You’re allowed to find things decent about Stormblood—yes, even Eureka, because I know that some people enjoy it. I personally don’t, but that’s my opinion just as much as theirs is their opinion. It’s only a problem when one blindly defends things on the sole premise of “these developers can do no wrong, and Yoshida is a god”, completely ignoring the glaringly bad aspects of things and acting like it’s the best thing since sliced bread (and yes, there are some people like that on here).

Sometimes, posters can come off as abrasive, especially if it’s in a topic they’re passionate about. I can be that way sometimes. And I have butted heads with quite a few people on here, and not always civilly. I just take small breaks from the forums when I get frustrated with them; I don’t stop posting entirely. And I’d recommend you try doing the same. Because, otherwise, how are your opinions going to be heard? Because occasionally, some topics are forwarded on to the main development team (a lot of the complaints about housing back and 4.1 garnered attention from them, to give an example).

There are plenty of things to like about Stormblood.

For example, I freaking *love* the Azim Steppe and all the different tribes... the Naadam and the whole quest line there. It was just so different and so fun.

I also liked HoH, despite it being mostly a POTD clone with some new stuff added. The ability to summon primals and wipe out a floor was fun as hell. Plus the end-goal was way more attainable than POTD but still a challenge.

The Canals of Uznair - especially the roulette wheel-type map is really fun. I'm glad they added that.

These things don't specifically have to do with Stormblood's story (which I'm ambivalent about), but are just nice additional things to do to cap your tomes and make some gil. I hope the next expansion will have more of these things so it's not just log in + do your dailies + log out.

I'm curious to know if the team who made contents during 1.0 is the same who made contents afterwards.

I feel chocobo escorts, hamlet defense and such were more interesting as a whole.

I have that weird feeling that they've lost all creativity since then...

I was OK with anemos since I had nothing else to do with my friends and it wasn't that bad. I have to admit that fate train and forcing people to chain mobs endlessly a la ffxi wasn't a very smart move without anything more than ffxiv current gameplay.

I enjoyed Stormblood but not as much as I had for Heavens ward, on a side note I think I've just been used to much better coming from SE so I was kind of responsible for over expecting.

@MetalSnakeXI1 It's OK to say you like something no matter how long you've been playing I don't think anyone has an issue about it, thought I share the point of view of some folks in that thread such has HyoMin, Vidu, Bourne and Lastelli.

I think you've taken your self-persecution a bit too far. I was criticizing the writing of Zenos and not you. Your thread was an opinion thread about Zenos, and was not titled "The Zenos Fan Club" or anything like that, but a question for other players about Zenos. I didn't mean you here on this thread by any means and I apologized for my last outburst(check the last page on that thread)

Again I was stupid and didn't watch what I was saying since I had a bad day and I apologize once again

I have a bad habit of not double checking things I say before I post them on social media which led me to problems before which is another reason why I'm trying to step away from Lodestone forums the same way I did with facebook and twitter........again I'm sorry for what I said

It's okay to disagree. Halone knows I've had my share of disagreements here on the forum -- fiery ones too. People can get passionate about things! The difference is when you realize it has gone too far and has devolved into something entirely different from the original post.

It's not really as you're implying. There is, however, a honeymoon period whenever someone starts this game or any game for that matter. Once that ends things become a lot clearer. You are entitled to your opinion, obviously, just like everyone else. But since you've only recently started I don't think an opinion can be given objectively on the game as a whole.

That is one complaint I think is valid as well but I don't blame this on the Dev Team I blame it more on the higher ups at SE not devoting adequate staffing/funds to FFXIV.

That would be because a large portion of the sub money from this game goes to fund other projects SE work on which i do not agree with but it is how business goes i guess

After 530+ hours I think it's a safe bet that at least I can form some sort of subjective opinion

Opinions are subjective by their nature no matter the game and even after the "honeymoon" period ends I'll probably end up taking a break,play something else then come back when I feel like it

Like I said I'm a simpleton so even if I complained my complaints will probably differ from most since no matter the amount of hours I'll remain a casual MMO player

I'll stop here since like I mentioned before many times I'm not too qualified to discuss further into this thread
