I still only got to choose one of several sets though. The only guaranteed gift for each job is the end-of-job-quest relic gear.

The other problem with having to choose sets is that even my one choice got quickly obsolete - I thought I should get the "important" sets like Fending and Healing - only to realise that was basically a wasted reward because they were also the highest priority to upgrade to the stronger gear. It doesn't help that Heavensward gives you gear coffers rather than individual pieces - so you don't know what i-level you're being given to know if it's actually an upgrade.
Ah I see that's kind of an oversight on SE's part I think they should just give, for example if you're lvling through HW > end of SB expac you'll get the ilvl 390 set for whatever your main you choose to be they could do 3 coffers: accessories/weapon/armor that way you have a full set to carry onto the next part of 5.X and not be a detriment to yourself and dungeon mates while leveling.

I don't get why HW coffers are that way I see Hellfire sets for example for tanks since my friend came back to the game but that honestly doesn't help since the first dungeon in SB the dungeon gear is considerably higher than the gear they give you it doesn't really make sense. So I agree with you on choosing sets when it's quickly obsolete that's why I feel previous gear such as Augmented Ironworks/Aug Shire/Aug Scaevean gear is the choice to go since it'll last in the long run vs going into dungeons and possibly leveling and not having a great time.
