    Hmm, I really like the idea that SE adopted the hebrew name for a demon because of "gatana," which is how you spell "katana" when it's a suffix combined with another word in Japanese. Linguistic coincidences like that amuse me a lot xD

    I wonder if Japanese players will be spelling it サルガタナス or with some kind of slang like サル刀ス (the second one uses the kanji for katana lol).

    It is spelt that way (JP FF wiki http://ffdic.wikiwiki.jp/?%C9%F0%B4%...CA%A5%B9%A1%DB)

    But no, they would never use what you said second. Generally contractions are made from the first 2 syllables of a word. So maybe 猿saru (=monkey). I know they use 鯖saba (=mackerel) for "server" (サーバー).

    It's hard to find lore for Sargatanas because its not really a memorable item...unlike excalibur or masamune.
    However , it's quite unique to FF9 , which is more important as it keeps the theme of the current names.
