I apologize... the year and a half wait sometimes eats at my soul and I say crazy things!
The fact of the matter is they handled this all wrong. People need to feel hype for this patch. They could have spent all this time releasing tidbits of teasers. They could have released a job video a week, 30 seconds long hyping said job. Or to stretch it out show a WS a week from various jobs (so as not to spoil them all). They could have released a bit of eye candy every so often to keep people excited. Their marketing is terrible. If this patch is so enormousness and grand then there is no reason -- whatsoever -- for them to have held their cards so close to their chest for this amount of time. Not trying to justify anything...
Anyways...this should be one of the last major system change patches. They have to get through all the nuts and bolts before they can really get down to content. 1.22 and 1.23 should start having more content. The roadmap doesn't even list patches before 2.0. I'm sure from 1.23 till 2.0 it'll all be story content.
Remember we got Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary and Tokyo Game Show which I suspect SE will use those two events to push out major things for FFXIV ushering in the coming of 2.0.
The reality is people are tired - which is 100 percent understandable regardless of how many droves of White Knights try to joust that fact down. They handled it wrong. As aforementioned if they have so much to bring to the table this time a slow build up of it, through various forms of information that is more tangible, is how it should have been handled. FFS, even a company that doesn't do MMOs gets it...
When ACM was delayed (Aliens: Colonial Marines) they said sorry guys, but check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=cMhpFpJSwgA
Now what did it do when people saw that video? They said, damn this sucks (that it was delayed) but got hyped up for the video and it started a lot of positive discussions cause they had something universally acceptable to jaw over. Eye candy.

Well said. I'd genuinely like to see someone even try and rebuttle that.I apologize... the year and a half wait sometimes eats at my soul and I say crazy things!

I'm curious...because it's a little tricky what SE has done. Server mergers on March 1st...
Let's say scenario goes like this...We know there are lots of people potentially waiting for this patch to come back. If a lot of people pay and become active again, how will SE handle merging 2 servers if suddenly this patch spurs a lot of returns? They might not have enough room to merge two servers.
I would suspect this patch would need to be released by the 28th so SE could sort out the server merger mess. If it's after the server mergers that this patch is released and peoples return to locked out servers and they can't join their friends that will be quite the interesting messy scenario.
CORRECTION: I guess I should fix my comment since server mergers aren't actually happening on the 1st of March. That whole server merging thing is a mess of confusion. So anyways this post is sorta moot sorry.

I would say they made room for returners in their calculations in relation to server merge size.I'm curious...because it's a little tricky what SE has done. Server mergers on March 1st...

Everyone know's people who left were either waiting for 1.21 (Jobs) or 2.0 release.
To punish returning players would have to be a giant screw up. Although, their payment interface setup does just that.
Fun is a buzzword.
Spoilers? Honestly, I can't be bothered to dignify that with a response...
