This isn't necessary (ie. useless) and dev time can be used more effectively elsewhere. Like putting the rest of the races' mannequins or fixing Pagos. But to explain myself, signatures don't matter because in the end, no one is going to care if they're not looking at that spot on the tooltip. On top of that, adding a signature animation, if you notice with using buff food, it will either use it with the 'eating' animation, or the 'potion' animation, and for most people, unless they're crafting/gathering, they are more likely to see the 'potion' animation.

IMO the next so-called 'evolution' of crafting should be based on a gameplay aspect and not a customization aspect, such as changing consumable animations (how do you even intend to apply this customization to non-consumables? They already have signatures regardless of NQ or HQ, same with housing items). This doesn't feel very well thought out. Personally, I'd like to see a rehaul of the Specialist system or an erasure of it and a return to ARR-style crafting. Crafting doesn't need to evolve, it just needs to get better... and certain things pre-HW were better.

While I think all of this is very silly anyway, a more practical point is: there are millions of characters in this game, and max gear/omnicrafting/specialist/whatever you feel necessary to distinguish people who have the "right" to apply such signatures is easy to gain. There's no way they can implement any kind of freeform "signature" to this, and even if they were able to give you a limited number of alternative animations or other methods of distinguishing the items, you'd still have hundreds if not thousands of players on each server with the same one (as with FC logos). The only thing that is unique is the playername, and I really wouldn't want to see "Moist Harmonica" (you laugh, but I've seen them) or whatever the crafter's name is flashing across my character any time I consumed an item, or stitched onto my gear.

It's not like SE cares overmuch of consumable animations anyway, apparently my character drinks tea out of a flask and all foodstuffs look like muffins.

In my opinion they might as well just get rid of the existing signatures on items altogether. It just seems like a waste of storage space they could have used to give us more inventory slots instead.

A lot of times they end up bugged out from transfers and the like and just say Obtaining Signature anyway.

One of our main crafters on Exodus is actually Obtaining Signature. I've seen them gathering before, and have quite a few bits of gear crafted by them. It amuses me right up there with Viewing Cutscene.
