That's what's happening right now. There are mass world wide DDOS attacks on various parts of the internet's infrastructure right now and SE has absolutely no control over it. Yes, their servers often aren't the best and there's a lot we can and should criticize them for. But this isn't one of those instances. They can do /nothing/.
so when you zoom in, you see the biggest target is not francfort, more scandinavian countries (forgot which is who sorry)
So could see other services getting matter from this ddos no?
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Yeah, it was affecting FFXI and Assassin's Creed Odyssey as well. Other services are likely impacted, but depending on the service, it can be tough to determine how affected they are. In services like youtube or netflix, their media is duplicated accross multiple physical locations to be served to users using a Content Delivery Network. This ensures that if one server goes down, another can just pick up the slack to server that static media. For a game server, that's not an option because our data is constantly changing and can't be duplicated without significant overhead.
Actually, they can temporarily suspend the housing demolition timer until this is resolved and/or improved. Keeping it up while some people can't log in when they get home (and not due to their own fault) is like saying "we don't care, but keep paying please". And no, I'm not affected by the timer myself, but I still think that it would be a good idea to do that, especially when this is not an issue that has been happening for a couple of days.To expand upon this, I'd welcome anyone who is upset with what's happening right now to take a look at this site:

Of course, they are under no obligation to do that, but showing that you value your customers is always a good idea. 2013's SE would understand/care about this.
You mean like this?! Sure, the reason stated is different and it happened after some chunk of days, but hey. It was possible to log in for a brief time here or there. Stopping auto demolition should not be impossible even for people with little time. So if the biggest attacks with most effect happened only after they did already stop the auto-demolition for a different reason, they wouldn't really add a notice about that, would they?!
