    Got DC'ed just now. Cannot even log into data center. Gives a lobby server connection error.

    As for the posts implying that it should be simple to fix a DDoS attack issue.

    In a DDoS attack, the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources – potentially hundreds of thousands or more. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single IP address; plus, it is very difficult to distinguish legitimate user traffic from attack traffic when spread across so many points of origin. Quite different from a DoS attack that typically is executed by 1 source and is easily resolved by blocking that source.

    If you want to be mad as someone direct it at the one causing the issue in the first place.

    I know your comment is for people implying that DDoS is an easy attack to fix which I agree. However, SE should provide what is called in every business around the world, customer support first. Is like going into a fast food, ordering a burger and the person in front hand you the burger without the buns, and other things you expect on a burger, and when you ask why is that, they just charged you for the whole thing and the excuse is "We are sorry but we didn't get burger buns on time but eat it anyway" - They should at least offer you a second option, discount or refund the money.

    We are expecting here some kind of customer service, People who lost a Level in Pagos/Eureka, Mats and gils for crafters, people doing HoH or POTD lost progress, what is SE going to offer to us?

    Nothing as far I see it............... this is not a free game and we are Paying for a service. Once again, I agree this is not an easy fix and I am going to take their "word" that they are "working" with the situation but it doesn't look they are reaching a way of making these attacks less. Things Happens, I agree but having this a lot lately is not funny anymore.

    Currently, there are DDoS attacks taking place on a heretofore unseen scale upon all NA, EU, and JP FFXIV data centres, purposely timed for each region's peak usage hours.
    There was a massive disconnection event earlier in NA due to this, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused to our players.

    I do not understand much about DDoS attacks, but if SE blocked free accounts and suspended this trial service for a while, would not they stop those attacks? Is it not necessary to have an active account to log in to the server?

    I certainly don't understand everything about DDos attacks either, but I'm pretty sure they don't actually need to log in to the servers to do the attack. It's more like they are "calling" on the server to connect to it. I think they call it a "handshake". If enough ppl do that then the server will be too busy to "shake hands" to manage what it's there for in the first place: sending out data to whoever is legitimately communicating with it when they are playing the game.
    Something like that anyway lol. So suspending the trials wouldn't help I'm afraid. It would however have a beneficial effect on all the RMTs scurrying around, trying to peddle thair illigal wares.

    Wouldn't help at all.
    A DDoS attack basically just consists of throwing lots of network packets from lots of different sources towards the datacenter. Those packets will swamp the network connections and prevent legitimate traffic from getting through.
    You can't filter out the bogus packets without looking at them - and at that point most of the damage is already done.

    There is no easy way of stopping a DDoS attack, and often the best that can be done is to mitigate the attacks - and that is the job of ISPs.
