    Victim of the demolition bug

So a few months ago the so called "demolition bug" happened. Players who have been inactive would not get a warning mail that their house will be demolished due to inactivity. I used to share a house with a friend. I was raiding, he wasn't. I went inactive for a specific time period too after I had cleared Kefka for the 8th time. He was the owner of the house and since we are good friends, I thought of the house as my own. I bought all the furnishing.
Our house got demolished. Our furniture got all deleted. We didn't even get a piece of our money back. I probably invested over 50 million gil into the house. I'm not even a crafter so 50 million for me is a sum that will last me an expansion long and keep my character 'live n kicking.
We lost the furniture, for one because we didn't get an email and secondly, as we didn't know, we didn't log in (not that me logging in would have mattered) to talk to the npc to get all our furnishing back.

I lost so much due to a bug. My friend wrote a support ticket and he got no replies or help beside "demolition bug". What is this injustice?
Point of this thread is letting out my frustration. I hope someone at SE reads this and realizes how messed up this is. I don't deserve this.

Tenants do not count for house demolition timer reset. your friend didn't check his e-mail properly/didn't have it set up properly to get e-mails from square enix/etc/etc/etc. you also didn't read the rules properly regarding house demolition and the time limit to pick up your gil/furnishings. not to sound mean but this is on you and your friend.

Also, the "demolition bug" is not about people not receiving emails. That's already been talked about. The email headers have a different setup and are more likely to go to your spam, but they are being sent and received.

The demolition bug is about houses being demo'd even though their actual owners had been in a day or two before (and well within the 45 days). That doesn't sound like what's happening here. There also hasn't been any definitive proof that this bug even exists or happened.

It sucks, and I think SE should set their demo emails up to have the same header/security as their other emails to ensure they're more easily received, but from what it sounds like, everything happened as it's supposed to, you just didn't realise it was happening. As was mentioned above, tenants cannot reset houses. I'm sorry to hear it, but it's not the "demo bug," and no "injustice" has happened.

I mean, it does totally suck that you two lost your house and all, make no mistake. But I do have to agree that this was an issue of not understanding how the demolition works, rather than a "bug" as you believe. The others are correct in that the owner must be the one who enters the house, and actually goes inside the house and not just walks on the lawn. As for not receiving the email, that is unfortunate however the timeframe for demolition is pretty well-defined. As long as you're aware of when you started the break, you should be able to estimate approximately when you'll reach the deadline, and ensure the owner logs in with enough time to ensure there's no issue.

I do believe if your friend speaks with one of the housing NPCs they can provide them with a certain amount of gil as compensation, as long as it's recent enough. However, I'm unsure if you can recover any furniture... It might be worth it to have your friend check the storage if they purchase another plot, but I can't say for sure. In any event, I do hope things turn around for you both soon!

Sounds like a lesson learn not to spend massive amounts on gil on something owned by someone else so you have no control over what happens to it.

You didn't lose it all because your friend didn't receive an email. You lost it all because your friend was choosing not to play the game and enter the house to reset the demo timer. You lost it all because neither of you took the time to learn how housing works and take the appropriate steps to prevent demoltion or claim the items after demolition had occurred.

I understand the frustration but ultimately the responsibility for the situation rests with your friend, not SE, since he was the owner and SE considers everything placed in a house as belonging to that owner regardless of your personal feelings. He knew he was not playing the game. He should have known the house was at risk as a result.
