Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. I've played plenty of other MMOs that had to deal with DDoS attacks, and guess what, none of them lasted for WEEKS. Things were usually fixed up and stable within a couple days at most.

DDoS attacks aren't really as simple as building a digital wall. Preventative measures can be taken, sure, but when there's so much data clogging up the connections there sadly isn't a whole lot that can be done other than to wait it out. You should probably understand the nature of these attacks. They are very, very difficult to fight back against. I'm sure they've only gotten more advanced over the years as well.Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. Some people just like to bask in their ignorance and blame the people they feel like. I have given up trying to teach, since no one learns. A lot like trying to help people improve in game, as it were. Huh.DDoS attacks aren't really as simple as building a digital wall. Aye, I was just reading about it, and there's many different forms of DDoS, and different ways it can be done. Also, apparently people can pay for DDoS services, so if there's a group of people mad at FFXIV for what ever reason, they don't even need advanced tools to DDoS, they can just throw money at it.DDoS attacks aren't really as simple as building a digital wall. I have found the FFXIV servers, (when they're not being DDoS'd)are some of the most stable that I have ever played in MMOs, especially considering where I live.

Every big name mainstream MMO has had weeks to months of DDoS attack issues. So either you do not remember these instances on your other MMO's, or did not play them long enough to experience them, or the other MMO's you played were small and as such only experienced DoS attacks which are far simpler to resolve.Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. Its really irksome when people feel the need to post all over about how easy it is to fix things when they have no actual knowledge of what is happening.

....What fantasy world are you living in where you think people creating several internet proxies and having them continuously sending massive packets of misinformation to delay and bog down the server has anything remotely 100% failsafe in protecting against it? You can't protect against it and the only thing you could do is have several back-up servers to continue running and hope those don't get DDoS attacked too.Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. There's no simple solution besides grinning and bearing with it like everyone else does.
Well, feel free to join the other MMO's where this happens still because you'll never escape it, even places like PSN and Xbox Live get hit with DDoS, Google and Amazon.com as well.

Might wanna do some research on what a DDoS actually is and why they're difficult to prevent. Also, if the datacentres were truly crappy, then FFXIV would be crashing on an hourly basis the second the 500th person enters the game. I won't deny there is some latency that makes certain mechanics annoying to deal with (like Suzaku EX, but I learned how to side-step without getting hit by running into the flames), but that's not much of an issue if your GCD's aren't interrupting themselves.Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. Or continue to live in denial. Your money, I don't care what you do.

Can some mitigating measures be taken? Sure. However, given how easy it is to proxy yourself, or even copy the IP address of other people accessing the game (as in legit players), including spoofing their MAC address (think hardware ID), plus how a lot of ISPs use dynamic IP assignment, you cannot failsafe it. Bear in mind there has been DDoS attacks that have taken down some of the biggest and strongest networks, and you'll see that if someone is determined enough, no amount of protection is going to stop it. And as people said, these services are available for hire, so someone disgruntled by the game can order a DDoS attack on the servers, and they could pay for say like 50 years of daily attacks if they wanted to. DDoS attacks are very sophisticated as they use botnets to attack a server (basically, think thousands of PCs all attacking a server at the same time, with different IPs etc).Nah, if they really cared they'd be taking action against their crappy data center for not protecting themselves better. Plus, if they're really determined, they can inject malicious code into SE's servers that when a player accesses it (say for example the login server), they get infected with that malicious code and their PC becomes a part of the botnet. PS4s are also susceptible to this if the malicious code is designed to exploit security flaws in the PS4. Trust me, it's a game of cat and mouse. Just gotta ride the storm and hope the person doesn't have an unending personal vendetta against Square Enix.
White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
