Lore Book II Preliminary Discussion Thread

    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/002543.html

Snippets are up! What are your thoughts on this new information?

Primarily the lore revolving around Ramuh, and Rhalgr being the same makes me extremely excited for where that could lead to. I’d love to find out who that is.

Secondly, I think that the Mol tribe lore was awesome. None of my role playing lore was off by even a bit. The white robe lore also intrigued me as well.

Lastly, I’m intrigued to know that Kuganes flag isn’t the only flag of Hingashi. That makes me interested in the possibility of a Bukyo expansion. Even more interesting is that Raen seem to be among the Hingashi population. I hope we get a Hingashin Raen village at some point. The Raen need more fleshing out.

Things that jumped out at me...

The Garleans have a really, really bad navy. And apparently it's just because they aren't interested in sea travel. No wonder the Limsan pirates raid them. And that's good news for everyone in Aldenard who wants to get to Othard and Hingashi. All they have to do is not go too near the Ilsabard coast...

Zenos is Varis' oldest son. How many other kids does Varis have? Will we meet any of them?
It makes a lot more sense now why Varis wasn't initially that annoyed with Zenos dying. I can see him having someone else in mind for the title of Crown Prince(ss) now who would be more suited for the role. And then Elidibus ruins that by inhabiting Zenos' body... There's a lot of potential in that fact.

Aulus mal Asina is mentioned as dying at Ala Mhigo.

Red Mage's sword techniques being related early Coerthen sword techniques is cool. So is the fact that their rapier design was originally from Coerthas.

Love, love, love the page on lore behind the specific polearms. Getting to read the other weapon's pages is going to be so much fun.

Finally! We have a post-1.0 lore source for the Garlean definition of what a beast tribe is! And yes, it does revolve around if a people group have summoned primals or not. To bad we had to wait until the Namazu page to get it...

Judging by the lack of like, cosmic-level mystic deeplore since the last book (a very down-to-earth, political few arcs), it looks like there's a lot of room in this lore book for things like weapons, history, and world-setting that would otherwise be back-burnered compared to Ascians and Great Crystals and civilizations and etc. etc. etc. I cannot wait to see the spread of "Aw, man, this is all nitty-gritty world-setting deeplore..." vs. "Hot sh[kupo!]t, this is all nitty-gritty world-setting deeplore!!!"

I'm hoping they shed a little light on the history of the Azim Steppe, namely when it was that the Xaela existed as a united people instead of scattered tribes and what exactly caused their schism in the first place.

Once again, I find that a lot of my tentative head canon has been confirmed. I reasoned that Garlemald would be unlikely to lean heavily on naval exploration/travel based on airships being a thing and the northern reaches of Ilsabard being frozen for much of the year. My Hingan's stance on Ijin is also supported - he found himself wary of their motives, seeing many as troublemakers with lofty ideals that did not necessarily align with Hingashi's traditional approach. He is very much an opportunist, seeking to make money off of visiting Ijin and learn of their ways to better guard his homeland against their habit of pushing for reform and eroding away cultural elements.

As for Zenos being confirmed as being the eldest son of Varis, that is promising - though his other heirs may not necessarily be alive. Assassination attempts were made on Zenos' life, after all. I wonder how his other children fared? I'm also eager to learn more about Varis' wife. There's no real mention of her so far beyond a very loose connection in the form of there being some sort of palace where an Emperor's consort resides. On that note, it'd be interesting to learn about Solus' wife given what we know about his current nature...

It's going to be an excellent tool for role-players such as myself.

Couldn’t airships fly low enough, and just blast the boats out of the water?

This whole piece around Garlean ariships /lack of navy maybe tangentially relates to the information in 4.4 about

a shield in the Burn forcing Garlean airships to struggle in reaching the far east due to fuel concerns. Flying over land is a much safer bet if their ships are fuel-hungry, and at least they'd be able to land safely. And it's a much stronger play from Hien because he understands navy isn't Garlemald's strong suit.

There's also that downed Garlean airship in the Sirensong Sea... That one must have been a very long way from home.

I had hoped that Aulus managed to survive and escape Ala Mhigo, if only to lead more into the nature of the Resonants, but it doesn't shock me in any way they threw him away too. I'm liking the historical bits on Hingashi. The possibility of the descendants of Hingashi being refugees from post-calamity Allag is intriguing enough in its own right. The extra lore on RDM swordsmanship is also cool. Waiting on this computer to actually be able to load the remaining pages though...
