Apparently some recipes are physical and some are magical. So, craftmanship for physical recipes, magic craftmanship for magical recipes.

We've been asking for clarification on this forever. For some things it seems to be common sense. For other things... not so much. Just gotta feel it out and see what works better.

It would make sense if mag.craftmanship was for alchemy and cooking and craftmanship for the rest, I doubt it actually works like that though.

Think of it like healing magic and attack magic, each one is specific and should be the same for crafting.

Well, when it came to the original gear, alchemist, culinarian, and weaver were on items like robes that gave large boosts to magic craftmanship, and blacksmith, goldsmith, armorer, and alchemist were on doublets that gave large boosts to craftmanship. However... I think that whether it's physical or magical is based on the recipe itself. Some disciplines may have more of one than the other, but I don't think any discipline is exclusively one or the other. I've even heard some hypothesis that recipes require certain amounts of both, and what's considered a "magical" recipe is simply a recipe that needs more magic craftmanship than it needs regular craftmanship.

Of course, this is all hearsay and conjecture. I don't know for absolute certain how the system works, and I try to just keep a more or less even amount of both.

If it changes into something else, rock into gem, fish into crystal, food into cooked food, mistletoe into potion, its magic.
If it combined or carved into something of the same property, log into lumber, ore into ingot, branch into arrow, then its craft only.

By that notion, rocks into gems would be craftmanship, as you are simply polishing it, very similarly to cutting logs into lumber. Both involve removing the rough exterior and smoothing it. Also, ore into ingot is more closely related to turning mistletoe into potions than it is to turning branches into arrows.

hmmm if they haven't change any thing it will be the following... and they "kinda" answer the question here:

    Ask the Devs! (10/29/2010)

    Q. What do the crafter-related attributes Craftsmanship, Magic Craftsmanhip, and Control each do?
    A. Among recipes in the game, there are those for which the rate of progress and chance of success are increased by higher Craftsmanship, and those for which they are determined by Magic Craftsmanship. Control helps to reduce the occurrence of aetherial sparking (see below), and exerts its influence over both types of recipes just mentioned.

All recipes, however, have set attribute requirements. Attempting a recipe with attributes below those required will result in lessened progress and quality, even for successful actions.

but since they are going to change synth very soon, so it's little too early/late to ask or answer this thing.
