    Curious...

Maybe this is a stupid question but... well what is it like on Besaid?
When I created this character I did want to role play a little but did not know about the un-official official RP server being Besaid.
As I made friends on Wutai and leveled up I didn't really want to re-start on another server just to see what it was like.

Now with the server merge coming up and the option to move available.. I'm starting to give some thought to moving.

So what is it like? I am not hard core RP-er and I've never really done it before other then casually playing in character in FFXI just for sh!ts and giggles.

Well if you want to roleplay, Besaid (or Balmung) is the place to go. Don't expect to see a lot of it going on though, you'll probably need to get a RP Linkshell.

    Hi OP,

On the RP side, it's been my experience that you would have to aggressively seek RP to participate in RP.

If you have made friends on Wutai, I would not risk a transfer to Balmung during the transfer phase and attempt to transfer back to the Wutai-merged world only to find that the population is full.

It's rare to stumble across RP. Occasionally I'll run across someone RPing in a camp or something, but for the most part people seem to RP over linkshell chat or something.

Hrmmm.. so I need to stalk down a linkshell first, huh?

I do have a second character that I created back before they fixed the point allotment stuff. So I would only move 1 to the "RP server" and probably just make her inactive if it was a nightmare, which I doubt it would be.
I'm not worried about losing my current server friends due to Mas--er--uh I forget how to spell it... being full since I have the "spare".

For those of you in RP linkshells... do you just behave in-character all the time or is there more to it?

    lastly:

Some RP linkshells may require you to be in-character at all times, others won't or just require you to be in-character in the linkshell itself.

Honestly, it isn't as obscure as people tend to think. The community just tends to keep to itself, therefor most non-roleplayers have no idea of what goes on - or that it goes on period.

It is quite active, though. I'd recommend taking a look at the community's site if you're serious about wanting to learn more.

I'm glad you like my sig, I love my moogle forum persona

As Endemerrin mentioned, that site is a good resource to find roleplayers. Though, unfortunately I am not in an RP linkshell at the moment, though I do still write in my blog from time to time. As you'll notice on the RPC site, there are basically 3 types of linkshells: Light, Medium, and Heavy, and that basically means how IC you have to be. For example, I was in Sanctus Refero for a little while, and for the most part it was like a social shell, except people would occasionally ask folks to get together for RP. The Medium and Heavy shells tend to have on-going storylines that you can participate in, though this of course does involve considerably more involvement.

I wonder, which type of shell appeals to you most? And what kind of person is Amrita, for that matter?

Just an FYI, they have had two different linkshells: one to be used as the "in character"/"RP-only" linkshell, and the other as a social linkshell. You could even be in one without being in the other (like myself, I was a non-RP social member despite my interest in RPing). Which I think some others do as the same as well, I believe also.
