For a few days now when I launch the game on my PS4, I don't get passed this "Connecting to PlayStation Network" until after a few attempts. But as of today, the game failed to get passed it at all. Is there anything to help solve this issue?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Are you having any other issues with PSN? Do you have connectivity issue with other games? I understand that you are trying to log into Final fantasy XIV, but you are getting a "Connecting to Playstation Network" error. I'd suggest contacting Playstation support and see if they can provide you with additional support.
On top that, I'd suggest trying some of the following:
1) Reset your router by turning it off for a few minutes, then back on.
2) Preferably, use a wired Ethernet connection as opposed to wireless.
3) Make sure that "Cookies" and "JavaScript" are ENABLED on the PSN Browser. This can be done by going to the web browser on the PS4, press the options button, then go to settings. The options for Cookies and Javascript will most likely be checked, uncheck them and then recheck them.
4) Restore the licenses on your PS4. Go to Settings > Account Management, and select Restore Licenses.
5) You can also try rebuilding your PS4's database. Boot the PS4 in safe mode. When the PS4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps: one when you first press, and another 7 seconds later. You should see a menu. Here, select 'Rebuild Database' (Make sure not to select 'Initialize') and follow the steps. I should note that this may some time depending on how much of your hard drive is used.

Ongoing issue for some of us that has only been coming up for ff14 as other online games and psn functions are working fine. For me it has progressed from having to try to close and open game a few times to get through, to going 4 days before it works again. If you get through chances are you will get stuck again even if you immediately open the game after closing it. Nothing suggested above has helped. Will see in a few hours if calling psn support will lead to anything useful or just another run around.
It seems like Step 3 worked for me. But it remains to be seen if the launcher will activate consistently. But regardless, thank you all for the assistance.
Man this is happening to me as well. And this started last week when Sony had a network outage. Been iffy ever since!!
Man this happened a little but last week but now I can't get in AT ALL!. Tried steps 3 and 4 and still can't get in...Maybe I need to talk to Sony.

This is an ongoing problem for me as well. Stuck on "Connecting to PlayStation Network" screen. Router/internet/all other online games are working fine. After about a dozen or so attempts to load the game it has tended to load up quickly, passing the above screen in about half a second, but lately I've been giving up since a lot of time passes. Tried all the steps to alleviate this issue and nothing prevents it.
Spoke with sony and they had me read the consoles internet test which has been 10-30mbp download 80-600kbp upload(test on PC lists 37mbs/6mbs), they are saying this is why psn won't connect, though they are overlooking the fact it was limited to 1 game. They had me set up port forward in router but this has not made any difference with connection test or getting into ff14. Will be speaking with them again.
Same is happening to me on PS4. Every other game and online feature is working as intended except for this game. When I open the app, it's connects to PSN (albeit very slowly) and then stays on a white screen for ages. Sometimes it'll connect but even then it won't bring up the log in info section of the screen.
I read that this happened earlier this year and that it took SE about a week to realize it was their fault and they finally fixed it.... Please look into it.
