    TERA vs. FFXIV

    Dear SE,

A lot of ppl were pessimistic of Bluehole studio's TERA ( http://tera.enmasse.com/ ) and if it would even release in USA.

Well... It's coming in May. A MMO that has various already well established selling points and an eagerly awaiting fan base which is already participating in their closed betas. The betas are reportedly close to error free (due to the game already having been released in Korea and bug tested there).

My question to you, SE, is what do plan to create in FFXIV that could contend with a MMO that is virtually ready-to-go and offers players a skill oriented non target based experience?

Now a lot of posters are going to wonder why I'm posting this? Well I can assure you it isn't for negative reasons so refrain from bashing me.

Let me explain my worries: I play on a rather well populated server, Lindblum. All I have heard about lately is ppl talking about TERA and how much better the Beta is than any other fully released MMO currently out.

Since I started hearing all this TERA talk, FFXIV friends of mine have stopped logging into FFXIV and Ul'Dah seems to be less populated than usual.

Now I have no exact measurements or facts but I "feel" like ppl are leaving to go play TERA.

Normally I wouldn't worry about this, but then I start thinking about FFXIV's track record and how the majority of what I used to believe was "epic fixes/content/promises" coming in 2.0... I start realizing that as much as I hate to think I wasted time pointlessly leveling in FFXIV just to end up with a mediocre MMO experience some years from now.

I almost refrained from writing this thread, cause I know ppl reading this are going to make the "grass is always greener on the other side of the hill" analogy. But seriously I love FFXIV and am highly agitated that even I, who put every day and free hour into FFXIV, agree that TERA has better mechanics than FFXIV is even promised to have.

I guess I'm trying to say: You better deliver SE!

I know SE and Bluehole are two different companies and I know FFXIV and TERA are completely different games. I'm just very disappointed. Idk what else to say. I feel like SE owes me and you all more than they've promised.

What is everyone else's view? Do you agree SE still needs to offer more in FFXIV? Aren't you tired of "filler/time wasting" content that doesn't offer extended benefits or a great sense of accomplishment?

Before you respond to this topic go to YouTube and watch a few TERA NA CB1 vids to see what I'm talking about. Do research before you jump in here white knighting.

Be honest. Be polite and please refrain from ignorance/belligerence when responding to this topic. Thanks.

Well there's 1. Also no need to apologize. I didn't make TERA and the point of this thread is to raise awareness and hopefully push SE to think beyond grindfest content.

Tera has failed in every place it has released to date more or less.

The games are not even similiar.

Square does not have to do anything to compete with it, they are targeting different player bases.

In the end no mmo will kill XIV, only SE can do that.

Tera is the new mmo on the block, all the drooling over it and such. Now if you look at it globally, Tera is doing pretty poor. The NA release is their final shot to save TERA more or less. The question really is what can Tera do to stand up against XIV 2.0 and GW2.

Surprised? Really? Vindictus has been out for a long while now. If it wasn't for the lack of content and interesting systems outside of combat I'd have never left that game. I will be interested to see how TERA goes about utilizing the systems they have in place to adapt that kind of combat flow to an open-world setting (whereas the Vindictus design was based on a linear model).

TERA is an MMO, just like FFXIV is. Their entire business model built on filler content and Skinner Boxes. The wallpaper and paint job is different and there's some new toys laid out to have fun with but the rate of player consumption cannot keep up with the developer's ability to implement new stuff and PvP is a stagnating Möbius strip of content (birds fly, cows moo, and MMO-players complain about PvP imbalance on top of that).

Im in the tera beta. Teras battle mechanics are nice. Thats about all it has going for it.

Tera has no endgame. Even in the Korean version, they have nothing to do but pvp.

A LS member has a max rank character on Korean Tera. He got bored and thats why he plays FFXIV.

So Tera is not the MMO killer you think its going to be.

You've acknowledged that they are 2 different games. In the heart of it that really is the major factor here. As for what FFXIV needs, it's 2.0. Until then everything really is only filler content. The reason they've been working on 2.0 is because they know they won't be able to make a quality MMO out of their current engine.

TERA looks awesome. I hear a lot of good things about it and I applied for the beta myself to no luck. I've watched plenty of vids out of genuine curiosity though. One thing to note though, that the lack of players in game these days and in the pst couple weeks can at least partially be attributed to the release of XIII-2. Though many players avoided it outright due to the stigma associated with XIII, or because they themselves did not enjoy the prequel, XIII-2 is quite the solid game as far as an FF iteration goes and has been popular with the people who played it. I know I've been absent because of it as well as a number of players from my circle of friends in game.

Ultimately though, I feel like the difference in gameplay will be a major deciding factor for lots of people. I'm also sure a lot of current FFXIV players will know to at least wait and see how 2.0 is before they make a decision on which MMO to stick by.

One thing I say though, is I can only hope that TERA is very successful - as the competition can lead to a great future for both games.

    Nice post.

I'm interested. In what has TERA failed? I ask because I seriously don't know. Could you list some factual evidence please? Links would be nice.

I and everyone else know FFXIVs failings very well. Please help the comparison

TERA seem to want to target horny kids o.o every video i see it's just half nude Mage dancing to cast spells lol. Sadly i saw the gameplay of tera and i did not like it. You can't really compare FFXIV with a game like Tera maybe FFXI or FFXIV but like someone else tera it looking at other type of players.
