My main motivation to raid is for the gear and the experience of the first clear. But for me the PF is just so horrible, I find myself wanting to wait until echo is added since the gear reward is pretty minimal.
I do normal 8 man raids for gear to hold me over until I have a full tomestone set and to help gear alts. I do 24 mans do get the items needed to upgrade tomestone gear to the augmented versions. I do ex primals for a hold over weapon, for cool skins and again to gear alts.
I avoid savage. Mostly because I don't need the extra ilvl and the gear tends to be ugly, imo, so getting a dyeable version doesnt mean much to me.
The thrill of the kill and the fastest route to higher/max ilvl. Oh and the raid-only mounts/titles/etc.
It’s also fun, especially when compared to “alternative” methods of gearing up (yes, I’m glaring in the direction of Eureka).
A challange to do things with friends.
The reason to raid is for me two things.
1: Challenge entertaining encounters, they have to be fun enough to warrant the amount of time I spend doing them.
2: That feeling of downing a difficult boss for the first time.
Currently I am not raiding, mostly due to SB having fallen short in both 1 and 2. But that is just my opinion, for those who like these raids go and have fun.
You raid because it's fun.
You play games because they are fun.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Mainly that first kill feeling. I craft so I'm fine for gear.
The problem I find is week 1 Normal feels great, there's a bit of actual progression and learning and the fights feel good. Then suddenly week 2 it's a 10 minute "get it over and done with" gear farm and half your raid can die 3 times over and you get through fine. I don't find the 10 minute o12 pug zerg once a week that fun. The next step up is Savage which is miles more difficult and takes more investment than I prefer.
I do wish there was a casual middle-ground. Something inbetween free-loot and cutting edge.
My static. We tell jokes. Roll /random for blame. It feels so good to take on and complete the highest challenge content.
