    Let me say right away that I dont enjoy Eureka - however neither I nor the apparently huge amount of people who dislike the content speak for everyone, so I'd have to answers to your questions:

    First of all there are people who like Eureka. Just because I dont like a piece of content, it doesnt mean no one does or that the content shouldnt exist - a lot of content is actually not enjoyed by the majority of people (crafting, raiding, PvP... yet all of them get updates). While playing a game should indeed be "fun", that can mean something different to every person - I dont find Eureka fun and I explained why in great length, so I wont repeat it here, but at the same time I can respect that someone else might find it fun - I know a few people who kinda like playing it excatly for the reason that its somewhat of a mindless grind they can do when they come home and are tired from work. Not my cup of tea, but it doesnt have to be. Doesnt has to be yours either.

    Second - and probably more important: The devs most likely dont plan from patch to patch, but made their Eureka-concept during the development of Stormblood all the way through all 6 elements - at least to a certain amount of detail. They cant just pull the plug on it, just because Eureka wasnt well recived because that would mean throwing away all the work they did and replace it with... nothing. Some might argue that that would be better, but we all know that it wouldnt.
    That they were planning and developing ahead is most likely also the reason why we saw so little of the feedback that was given in regards to Anemos inpact Pagos: They were to far ahead developing it to make use of that feedback - one can only hope that they're gonna make adjustments for the following ones now... even though I wont hold my breath on that.
    ...and maybe they're hoping that people will start to like it eventually...

    By now I honestly believe that their biggest mistake in regards to Eureka was putting the relic in there - because now a lot of people who arent intrested in the content feel forced to do it (and they are, if they want the relic). If Eureka would have been truely as optional as crafting, gathering and UWU are, there would have been a lot less of an outcry.
    Currently, people who just dont enjoy the content are doing it and are (rightfully) upset about the whole situation.

    Not just the relic weapon, but plot. The fate of the Isle of Val has been a mystery since post-ARR, originally raised in the course of the MSQ, and here it is at last... have fun slogging through the content to find the answer, right?

    Granted, the crafting and gathering questlines also have stories locked behind them, but you can chip away at that at a much slower pace, or skip a lot of the work by buying all your requested items from the marketboard instead. (I don't do that, but people can if they want to.)

    Other "outside of normal gameplay" activities like PVP - or even Diadem as far as I'm aware - don't have story locked behind them in the same way.


    It also seems quite hard to gather a group or even a second player for completing the challenge log entries to level up (at least in English on a JP server), and trying to grind solo is massively slower and harder. I just don't want to have to spend my time doing this tedious work when I could be doing something enjoyable.

    I think that's what it comes down to. It's "required" work in a different gameplay style to the rest of the game. I wouldn't buy a game that made me play this sort of content from the start, so why should I suddenly be expected to enjoy it seventy levels later? I didn't sign up for this.

    Let's be honest. They did this purely to avoid another Diadem scenario where no one did it. With Pagos, they can try to save face and point to some degree of activity. Diadem, on the other hand, is a downright embarrassment as it remains the only piece of content Yoshida has openly said they may simply close down. It's that unpopular.

    They did put one step of HW relic in Diadem, remember ? Initially you had to go Diadem to collect materials for the crafted items you need for one of the earlier steps.
    Funny how that quickly got patched out to 'buy it from your friendly grand company' instead...... and I don't see much future for Eureka to be honest - it'll die faster than Diadem with fewer good memories attached to it.

    The only good decision about HW relic was to just put one step of it in Diadem, rather than the whole thing - plus the HW relic largely kept step with the tomestone weapon, rather than catch up at end of tier at the edge of obsolescence.

    from the top of my head that nerf only happened quite a few patches later after the Umbrites step was already out, so that change was more amongst the lines of the 'usual' over time nerfs to the relic weapon steps.
