Is it Mongolian?
Hingashi/Kugane is obviously Japanese. So what about the Azim Steppe? I can't tell if it's Mongolian or some kind of Middle-Eastern thing. It's bugging me. lol
Thanks.

The Au Ra clans there are based on Mongolian culture I believe, so it's probably a combination of that and...something else. They like to sorta...mesh things together as far as music goes and it is usually pretty awesome.
It's fantasy Mongolia, yes.
Really? Mongolian PLUS something else?
I mean, they're not consistent with things like that. For example, Kugane is very Japanese, purely. The nagas (ananta, whatever they're called) of Gyr Abania are pure Indian. Ishgard is very pure medieval-Europeanesque.
I mean, if they created a town that has a sushi bar together with a shawarma stand, then I'd believe you...
I meant with their music, not the cultures themselves. A good example is Sophia's theme, Equilibrium (best boss theme in the game imo). It has hints of middle eastern influence as well as Asian.Really? Mongolian PLUS something else?

The architecture of the castle at the Dawn Throne as well those colorful cloth streamers you see about are inspired by Tibet, but everything else is Mongolian, particularly the names of Xaela and their customs.
The real world Naadam is an annual sporting event, which incidentally focuses on the three activities the Namazu chose to adopt for their festival: horse-riding, archery, and wrestling. They also mention celebrating the Tsaagan Har, which is the Mogolian lunar new year, and is traditionally viewed as a time for family and making peace with one's enemies (Which is why some of them mention needing to be more cautious now that it's over).
Steppe: Mongolia with hints of Tibet.
Doma: Japan and China, with heavy emphasis on China after the initial reveal because Hingashi didn't seem to exist as the Japanese analogue yet.
Hingashi: Bakumatsu era Japan, mixed with Meiji era.
