Um.... Has he SEEN Lord of the Rings Online? While not too popular is has a music system that is pretty amazing. If anyone wants an idea, look on youtube for something called Weatherstock. It's a HUGE musical event that players put on in the game every year. Compared to that Perform is rather simple.
The comment did confuse me at first pertaining to that and more so the housing RP stuff. Housing RP pretty much existed through nearly every MMO made after 1999. So it made me wonder if he really ever did play any modern or semi modern MMO. Then I thought more on it and what really does put FFXIV as one of the better RP games is its large and very elaborate and detailed catalogue of emotes, dances and expressions. So I don't know what he's going for and if he's aiming for focusing the game on its Second Life aspects more so then the actual game itself. Which is great if you RP, not so much if you don't. Maybe that's what he means by "other MMO's catching up" since those other MMO's focus more on the game play part first and the aesthetics part second.

If its true I'm expecting to see a slew of more $8 emotes on the cash shop >_>

Hello, I work for Finaland and although I wasn't at Gamescom for the interview done by Fat Chocobo, I was the one who did the full transcript of it.
"German Media" is just because we couldn't remember the name of the other media who did the interview with us.

The interview was done in english, translated in japanese to Mr. Yoshida and Mr.Soken, then the answers were translated back in english to us.

It was Mr. Koji-Fox who did the translation, so there are no translation errors possible.
(I'm sure you will find a lot of grammatical errors though, English is not my native language !)

We emit those kind of critics towards the game because we love the game (I myself am a player since version 1.20), we want the game to continue to shine and we think that sometime some critics are necessary.
Our intentions were in NO WAY to put Yoshida and the developement team on the spot. We have a huge respect for them and we love the game that's why in each of our interviews we ask questions that we think are important to the community.

They most likely don't do this because they don't want glamour to be the true end game. With that said, they don't want to go up and beyond to change the current endgame formula either because to them it isn't broken.

Massive props to your team for asking the questions they have been ignoring so far.

But isnt it that already in a way? I mean people joke about this, but how much of the game uses glamour as either a carrot for content or just as a reward from quests? Also look at the mog station with all the glamour outfits in it. I am not saying that its the endgame for everyone but I get the feeling that glamour is a big part of the end game for a lot of the more casual players.

Thats why I also believe that a great wardrobe with unlimited storage or maybe even a glamour book with all existing glamour could make old content active again or at least give people lots of things to gather.

"Glamour is the true endgame" started as a joke, but considering the amount of uproar caused by a comment he's been making for years makes me think it's more and more the truth.

If I remember correctly, Yoshi-P even thanked you guys for asking those types of hard questions during one of your past interviews.

It's for that reason they possibly limit glamour options moving forward with all these restrictions. They don't want that to be the only incentive to play, while also not completely rendering the most notorious incentives we currently have as irrelevant. Yet, they don't really do much to incentivize anything else instead. It's a theme park MMO and the only attractions on most people's minds is glamour and housing these days. They want to use their resources in other areas instead. . . at least they give off that illusion in their interviews. That's yet to really be executed so far.

    Just my assumptions though.

It's funny... because you look at ESO's outfit system and it's awesome... you can mix and match and make your characters UNIQUE but it took a long time to get there. Why do game developers feel that THEY should decide for everyone what is and isn't "acceptable" for a Mage or Paladin or whatever class to look like? Does everyone in the real world wear the same thing? Sure, there are such things as 'uniforms' for certain jobs but considering that our player character is NOT in the military and is an adventurer with the ability to play ALL classes, you'd think the devs would give a lot more flexibility to style options. But then again, even in ESO, the devs fought players for YEARS on being able to dye weapons- because the devs feared that everyone would be running with pink weapons. As it turned out, when they added weapon dying, I never saw a single pink weapon the entire time I played. It just goes to show that devs sometimes fear things that are not based in reality... but even if people do mix and match the ridiculous... WHO CARES, it's not hurting the game.

Especially in a game where you can wear a pig head, a chocobo body and werwolf legs and feets at the same time and have no idea what job that person is playing either..so any argument about people being confused (which they should not be since you still have the weapon and an icon in the group list..) or that it would look bad are just not making any sense...
