I don't see how this would improve anything. Imagine Square asking the forums "Do you think we should add an official parser?"

There would be war for a month. Then, whichever path SE took -- to add or not to add -- half of the community would still be at war, eternally, showing how "back then we were right." "They made a mistake listening to the majority."

Net result would be the same, people bickering over the forums forever. SE already knows where people stand on this particular issue, as well as hundreds of other issues-- so in a sense, they've already done their surveys.

Were they to do an official survey at this point, it would probably be theater.

The forums will always be a war zone, but there is some truth to some of the feedback here. It just gets lost in the chaos sometimes. The poll doesn't have to take place here though. Nothing bad could come of a player poll every so often, so I have no idea why you're truly against them no matter where they'd decide to post one.

Oh, I'm not against them. I just find them theater-- done only for show, for no real purpose other than to look nice.

Heck, even if they went as far as to post a daily question ingame for a gil reward... well, think of the current state of the uselessness of commendations.

Fair enough. At this point though I'd settle with the illusion that they care.

    I see you've been around since 2013.

    I gesture to Praetorium.

And then I gesture to PVP.

And then I genuflect in the direction of the current state of savage/extreme PF.

Once something's out the door, Square doesn't care what happens to it. As for what Square decides to push out the door, I offer a grand flourish to Eureka.

Honestly I have to agree with this. Unless the survey was generic (How much do you enjoy X content), asking about specific things like parsers is only going to lead to a community meltdown.

I agree, they really need to do in game surveys, Korean developers do it even though they rarely listen and they also offer some kind of little item when you complete them.

The people in forums consist of a very small minority of the playerbase. Should such a minority dictate the course of the game's development to the large majority? I say no.

    [EDIT]

What we'll have would be the tyranny of the minority, where a very small minority put their self-interests ahead of the vast majority. I wish I can say I trust people on the Internet to have a broad outlook on the situation and propose changes to the benefit of the entire playerbase. However, what is far more likely is the minority imposing their selfish desires over the rest.

So should we ignore anyone willing to provide any feedback and let the devs just constantly make content without ever taking into account any feedback that their paying customers may have? I mean at this point feedback really needs to be taken into account lest we get another Eureka or another Expansion where we get more of the same with no proper iteration. I mean heck this interview itself already shows Yoshida hasn't even considered changing things up for the PvE side of things or the formula as a whole: https://www.finaland.com/?rub=site&page=news&id=6350
    - German Media : Since A Realm Reborn, the end game pattern haven’t a lot : Farming tomestones, four high level raid and alliance raids, is there any plan to break this pattern and doing something new or are you going to continue to follow it?
    - Yoshida : Currently we have added the even higher end, the Ultimate raids, but beyond that we still haven’t considered anything yet. However for the Disciples for the Hand and the Land, we are thinking of some new type of end content for those classes, but we can’t tell you anything about that yet.

The devs need to be transparent with their players and the players need to be vocal about what they want and without a proper way for the two to communicate the worse it'll become for the game. Plus my suggestion is to tie it to the log-in menu itself as to make sure everyone has a visual notification to input their opinion on the game. A good example would be something like Digital Extremes and their Warframe players with their 2 devstreams a month that actually shows their players the progress on systems. This gives the players time to voice any concerns while at the same time having any idea of what the devs have in mind.
