    new player feed back

I have played Ff-xiv for about 4-5 months now I play daily but I guess considered a casual player. Just wanted to give some feed back on how I like the game so far. My main concern is being stuck on msq I feel the new areas like heavenward and stormblood should open up when you reach a certain level rather then be stuck forever in in the old areas forever. You are unable to play with older players do faith hunts ect with them. This makes the game pretty boring after awhile. Lets not forget the other players have had 5 years to do this content to expect a new player to catch up in a few months is pretty unrealistic. Alot of other games do not require you to do all the original content or buy your way to where other players are at the present. Plus then there is the toxic attitude of older players towards new players. Being call pathetic sprouts, scrubs, slapped spit on in dungeons really that is what helps bring in new players. I even had a guild member say i wish the tank was dead in rl omg thats kinda taking it to far i think. There are really helpful people out there also just seems you remember the bad over the good more. I do enjoy the game but think it needs some overhaul to make it more new player friendly. Plus i feel the road to 60 should be for all players with no time limit also other games had done this also to help all new and old players to keep up. take care and have fun

I'm sorry you had bad experiences in dungeons, while I haven't seen the name calling I experience impatient people in almost every dungeon. Anyone who resorts to that kind of name calling, id reccomend reporting them. Also maybe find a different fc if that guy was an officer, if not bring it up with one if its reoccurring.

If yer looking for hunts in the lower level areas, there should be hunt linkshells. Just shout in a major city a little and someone should invite you to one.

What's the hurry to get to the new areas? Enjoy the journey instead rather than rushing through it and end up with nothing to do.
Most quests are done solo anyway, and the ones which need a group draw that group from the whole playerbase - new and old players alike.

Road to 60 buff is actually bad for new players in my opinion. It completely messes up the intended leveling pace and experience.
Unless you know how to manage it (by splitting experience among several classes) which few new players will know, it will cause you to either quickly outlevel your quests or - if you skip most sidequests - you will often end up undergeared since you miss all the quest rewards.

As for the toxic players, report them if they are bad enough, otherwise just ignore them. Beyond that they are not worth spending any thought on anyway.

oh about those who call names or try to shame, don't worry about them. it sucks and is irritating, but theres a lot of us that wouldn't do that and can't stand those people, typically theyre not good themselves lol.

Zalera is a small and laid back World, so you might have issues running ARR/HW fates and Hunts unless you find the right groups. I highly suggest being in a few Hunt/FATE linkshells geared towards running both new and old content. This may help considerably as there are a few organized groups in Zalera who do this. There are a lot of nice people on Zalera and they try to help out new people as much as they can, so you might just have to look around for them. Unfortunately, my alt is no longer on Zalera, but I was pretty active in Hunts and FATES for both new and old content.

As for toxic people in dungeons, that's a shame. I wish people would take time to explain strats and help out more if a player is struggling, instead of just complaining and not aiding the situation.

I haven't experienced any negative players yet thankfully, but I just started a month ago. I too am mired in solo quest hell. I checked the MSQ line and I still have like 50 more AAR quests to do. I have abandoned any quests leves or fates that aren't absolutely necessary, because I'm already almost level 60 and don't have any of my level 50-59 spells. I feel like I have to level another class and advance the MSQ more on a different job, because at this rate I'm going to be level 70 with no spells past 50, running around Mora doing solo quests. I guess it's due to the xp bonus, but this entire time I've been doing quests way too low level for low level rewards that I wouldn't even use. I've gave up on story and just been blowing through all the dialog and skipping cut scenes. I'm not going to watch 200 cut scenes about how I need to go hail some NPC at a camp.

I'm going to plow through to end game because I dropped 60 bucks on this game.

If you have the Road to 60 buff, you will level crazily fast. If you don't know how to manage this (by using multiple classes to soak up the Exp) you will outlevel content or have to skip 95% of it. I would strongly disrecommend the Road to 60 buff for new players - it well mess up the leveling experience badly.

Blowing through dialog and cutscenes means you are missing the good parts of the game. The end game is less interesting than the leveling process.

I came from Wow BFA, kind of tired of timegating.

Then I'm in FFXIV, with the time gate of all time gates (the MSQ.)

I fell behind, so now I'm level 54 and up to a level 40 or so MSQ (finally!) Though 54, I can't get to the new areas because I have not done "Before the Dawn" MSQ yet.

That aspect, of this game, is WAY worse than Wow BFA. In Wow you can at least get to a level, then simply be doing the next expansion content.

I may be level 60 before I can even do any of the "heavensword"(or which ever one it was) stuff.

I was under the impression new players should ignore everything but MSQ and job quests while leveling their first char (class). The reasoning behind that was the amount of inventory micromanagement you have to do with multiple classes or jobs and I understand it. Even the idea of leveling my gatherers or crafters is giving me nightmares. Every one of them is capable of filling the inventory by themselves, and there are 11 of them. And that's even without other classes/jobs.

I thought it would help reaching 50 and then do those quests I left with a new job. No. My Sam is fully skilled to 50.
Then I thought I would give him crappy gear, start with 3 or 4 skills and then slowly build my SAM gear, do low level quests and learn new skills. A simulation of what would be if SAM started with lvl 1. But even that is no solution. He is overpowered for low level content and one shots everything in sight, so I can't learn my skills properly.

Now, my NIN is lvl54 with close to 100 quests to do before I can do "Before the dawn" which alows me to continue leveling the job. I imagine I'll be close to 70 before I can learn my lvl 54 skill.
