I was in agreement until you said the bolded part, I don't want to play in the same timezone as US/AU players as their events are normally during the middle of my night. The point of the entire series? Uh, no. There are like 30 games in the FF series, and only five of them even have multiplayer, and only two of those are online. So interacting with people from all over the world can't possibly be the point of the entire series.
Anyway, I think a special regional server is a good idea. However, if it were up to me, I would segregate the severs based on language rather than location. That way instead of having just a European server, we would have a French server for French players, a German server for German players, and English speaking Europeans could just go on the same servers as everyone else.
Also, Japanese players could have their own servers as well.
Seperate UK server I would be ok with. (It would have all of 300 people on it though lol)

FR/DE population is probably way too low for them to have their own server, at best it would be from 2.0 and onward, especially when a brand new audience will join XIV, an audience that may not be used to MMORPG and speak only French or German. The point of the entire series? Also, (talking for the FR community since I'm also French), a good part of the FR community is attached to the "melting pot" that exists in XI & XIV (JP/NA/EU all together on the same World). Most of them speak decent English, good enough for basic gameplay things. And because of that, the idea of having a FR only World is not really appealing to them.
However, if you take the future 2.0 average customer profile, that could be different. Let's say you have someone like :
- Not a former XI player
- First MMORPG or used to others mainstream products which have servers separated by language
- Too young to be proficient in English
Well then, this type of customers will be interested in a FR only server and won't probably like to play with JP/NA/EU people all together.
It can be really hard to explain to someone not familiar with FF Online that "over 80% of the population you will play with do not speak your own language" and "half of that 80% speaks Japanese only", which is completely out of reach for 99.99% of French people. Try and sell them a product like that, good luck.
Antipika.

I hate to say this, but the server is gonna fail hard.
If this was done at 2.0 itd be a real good idea, itd give people an option to start fresh as a bunch of new players came in, but alot of people now already have connections and dont want to be seperated from them
Sure some people will go, but not enough to support a real server i dont think.

I'll miss JP people, i always liked to do thing with JP (that are not jp only minded) and i'll wait to see what other people want to do (i mean spanish community).
Also raistlin, i'm the only from South America that i said about moving there if people do, the others are from Mexico (north america)
But, like TheVedis says, if only people from EU come to this server, will fail so bad.

@Raistlin : Almost half of the french community isnt going to server 10 because they first settled in Selbina and fear about JP/NA not moving. With merging server 1 + 1, why would japanese and american move to server 10 ? They already have their community settled, and they're going to be half more than before on their new server. If you were JP or NA, would you sincerly like to move to a brand new server and start your community from scratch with no guarantee that your friends follow you up there?
Option 4 was good for european, and fit well with a server recommanded for european, but with option 2, its just a poisoned chalice.

Hi there !
Something need a correction.
Roganoken talk about himself and maybe his linkshell but saying that "almost half of the french community" is not moving to 10 is absolutely untrue !
There is alot of the French Community moving to Ragnarok. Yes there is still some discussion and some people are not ready to chose if they are moving or not. But there is definately a significative number of French players going to Ragnarok !
Best regards,
Arek

I think they're going to fix latency problem in the future. On FFXI it wasn't a big difference. Also, you could just don't fight with a JP if you don't want to? If you do PvP on EU sweet time there will be low amount of JP people.
Also, i don't see a good thing having servers on NA and EU. It will fuck communities, NA people will move to NA servers, same as EU and then servers will be underpopulated on others time.

The other issue is that if it's known that the server may close people won't want to move to it in case it does - I for one wouldn't want to risk losing my character name (not that its likely) by moving to a server that may move and force me to chose yet another server a couple of months down the line.
Also although some people will chose to move to new servers I would imagine most people will just stick with the default migration server so moving means losing people on your friends list. Why would I chose to move to Ragnorok and lose my friends list if I'll end up on Balmung anyway in a couple of months but missing my friends list and risking having to change character name?
I think having region specific servers is binary, either you have dedicated regional servers or you don't; go the WoW route of servers restricted to a region or the XI route of everyone plays with everyone, let the community sort the rest out - did square make Belsaid the RP server? No, the community did, and I think the community is happy to manage regionalisation as well.

i don't see why NA/JP wouldn't move to ragnarok.apperantly i already know of many going to move there.
there are various reasons for them.most of them i hear are about having a fresh server to start with.
some are saying they want to start a new community on ragnarok before 2.0 hits.
but let's be honest.most opinions will never be heard, because of most players just not using any kind of fansite/offical forums.
the future of ragnarok is totally up to the players joining it, and actually i don't see it failing.i allready know from over 20 ppl on my server that will move.and there is probably many others that i don't know of.and that doesn't only concern my server.
only time will tell how ragnarok will do.and still in worst case we can change servers or get merged with another.
to me for example it's only important to move to a server with a stronger EU community.because on my current server there simply doesn't exist a real EU community.
all predictions.i think ragnarok will do fine![]()
