    Durandal? Seriously?

This is one of the worst names for a world I've ever encountered. I understand that they need to name us something but in a lifetime of Final Fantasy I've not spoken a word that caused my mouth so much distress as Durandal. It's exactly the sort of word that people who don't play MMOs laugh at and people who do play MMOs are ashamed to say out loud. If I said it on a bus I'd feel fat and I'm sure my skin would get blotchy.

It may be OK for the Cornelia people but for us on Rab I'd have to protest. Surely a different name would be more appropriate. In fact just keep it at Rabanastre. The Cornelia people can assimilate.

Everything is said in the OP. It's the word itself which is bad.

    Duran Duran.

Your server nickname is Duran Duran. And if they can't appreciate Ordinary World... Well, they should be more concerned about themselves at that point.

sry i still dont understand whats wrong with the name or word. durandal is the name of Rolands sword. is it offensive in any language? or why is it causing you distress?
And why should people laugh because of it? And even if they laugh, why should you care?

I also don't understand. If someone doesn't play MMOs, he wouldn't need to mention his server name. And even if he did, Durandal is almost synonymous with "indestructible" with military weapons named after it.

There's nothing bad with it o_O Durandal is a short sword in FFXII and Rabanastre is the Capital City in FFXII, so it fits together. Also you shouldn't talk about Cornelia people "they can assimilate to Rabanastre", it sounds like you put them down, as if Rabanastre-People would be something special or better than Cornelia.

Sargatanas sounds cool imo too, hence it's a double-bladed weapon, which Zidane in FFIX uses.

I am so jealous of Masamune though. xD

Durendal or Durandal (Most likely from French "durer", "to endure";Italian: Durlindana Spanish: Durandal or Durandarte) is the sword of Charlemagne's paladin Roland in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France.

The origin of the sword is unclear; the sword is given various provenances in the Matter of France. Several of the works of the Matter of France, however, agree that the sword was forged by Wayland the Smith, who is commonly cited as a maker of romantic weapons. According to the Song of Roland, the sword is brought by an angel to Charlemagne, who gives it to Roland. According to Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso it once belonged to Hector of Troy, and was given to Roland by Malagigi (Maugris). This is questionable, given that the swords of Hector's time were made of bronze, and would not have held up in battle against the iron or steel weaponry of Roland's time.

In The Song of Roland, the sword is said to contain within its golden hilt one tooth of Saint Peter, blood of Saint Basil, hair of Saint Denis, and a piece of the raiment of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the poem, Roland uses the sword to hold off an hundred-thousand-strong Muslim army long enough for Charlemagne's army to retreat into France. Roland attempted to destroy the sword to prevent it from being captured by the attacking Saracens and created La Brèche de Roland in the Pyrenees in the process. But Durendal proved indestructible, so he hid it beneath his body along with the oliphant, the horn used to alert Charlemagne.

Local folklore claims Durendal still exists, preserved in Rocamadour, France, embedded in a cliff wall. In the twelfth century, the monks of Rocamadour claimed that Roland threw the sword rather than hide it beneath himself. However, the local tourist office calls the sword a replica of Durendal.

    TL;DR Durandal doesn't like muslims
