Item Equipping Idea for 2.0: "Equip" and "Display" Slots

This is an idea for the equipment system inspired by the /display mh (or head) commands

The idea is a simple one: having separate slots for items equipped visually, and those equipped for stats.

How many people have gear they wear in town or in CS, but can't fight in because of the related stats being inferior, the classic example here being moogle weapons (in full parties anyway) - and it WILL happen to a good fraction of the AF armour which I doubt every peice of will beat triple melded gear.

Seeing as it is clearly possible to load stats and displays from items separately from the /display function, it should be possible to double up every equip slot (accessories seems a bit pointless) to one "equip" slot and one "display" slot.

The piece of gear you want the stats from goes into the "equip" slot, and the piece you want your character to visually wear goes in the "display" slot.

In the case of wanting to wear nothing like with hats or weapons (or shields damnit! I hate that wooden crap on my THMs back!) simply equip to the "equip" slot, and nothing in the "display" slot.

But what if we want to wear an item both visually and for out stats? Equip to the display slot only, have the stats of the "display" slot load if nothing is placed in the "equip" slot. While this is slightly counter intuitive, doing things the other way round would make it impossible to display nothing.

Keep the same level and class restrictions on the display slots obviously.

I am pretty sure everything required for this is already coded into the game, so it would not be too much effort.

This would of course increase inventory burdens, but this brings me to another point - should equipped gear take up inventory space? Assuming items are carried in some ridiculously dimension warping gobbiebag equivalent, how on earth is something I am wearing in the bag at the same time. Unequipping an item could easily be changed to simply double clicking or double confirming the equipped slot rather than reselecting the equipped item from the list.

Should this idea get any support/implementation at all, I apologise in advance for the people doing every event in nothing but the golden subligar.

Been said several times, but I feel this is something that should continue to be asked until a response comes. Fully support this idea, it will be easy to implement imo and will stop all the clones running around.

    I fully support this idea.

The ability to customize your appearance with gear is a must have feature in a modern mmo, as it avoids clones. It's also a great way of keeping older content usefull by making obsolete gear worth getting for it's model. This has been proven to be very effective in other mmo's where once implemented players were spending alot of time doing older content. Character appearance is very important for those who play rpg's especially in mmo's.

There's a similiar thread Here with the same goal.

I really like the idea of display slots since it allows for an easy way to both implement and use.

    Support this idea also.

Some response from the com team would be appreciated even to say the idea has been passed on.

This feature is becoming a standard in mmo's, players care alot about how thier character looks, and it foverer keeps old content usefull. It's a huge thing that's not only proven to work but is very easy to implement. I'm also getting very tired of seeing everyone running around in the same gear, why bother with a character creation when we all look the same with gear on?

It's been a requested feature for ffxiv nearly a year ago, and no talk about it yet from SE. Would really like a response to insure that it will be available in 2.0 in order to make ffxiv a competitive and modern mmo.

I don't see how this would change anything. People aren't going to want to deal with gear with no stats. You add a feature like this people will start demanding that the "eye-candy armor" have it's own stats too. Also, your appearence is supposed to indicate what your role is and how much you've played and etc.

You can have visually appealing gear that has good stats. Why not ask for that?
