Hard content can be fun, and easy content can be fun as well.

I think that most important than making something that is simply "hard" or "easy", is indeed that it is ultimately fun to do. I want the developers thinking "Hey, if we increase this guy's attack and give him this very strong AoE move he uses under certain conditions, it will make the battle more interesting and fun ", and not "Hey, we need to double his HP and ATK power so it's harder lol lol".

Hard mode in an MMO is where you solo EVERYTHING... why does it *need* a hard mode?

Actually, the entire set of CoP story missions where very challenging (pre-nerf) and hold some of my best memories of the game.

SE really got it right with CoP.
Then WHY didn't anyone want to go back and help those who hadn't completed it? That's why they "nerfed" it. Cuz the people who finished it "NEVER EVER" wanted to do that sh*t again.

I think that they need to keep a balance really. I notice that even thou the extreme hardcore players left Ifrit (and now Moogle) behind way long ago, Ifrit still seems to be the most popular thing to do at the moment. At least on Rabanastre it is. I see several Ifrit shouts per day and the Ifrit cave always has 2 or 3 parties there most times. Moogle however, i very very rarely see shouts for it, and mostly the Moogle area is empty. There are still a couple LS and static groups that do it, but the more extreme hardcore players have moved on from Moogle. I'd say the majority of players haven't even touched Moogle yet as they are still working away at Ifrit.

That's just an example of how divided the player base is. We cannot just design all the content for one group of players. I'd rather that they work on a variety of balanced content than just throw this "super hard mode" content at us.

Limbus was also difficult, yet fun. Anyone who remembers the Ultima Weapon fight when Citidel Buster was counting down on some poor Taru WHM knows exactly what I'm talking about.

I think Nyzul Assault and Limbus were challenging. I wouldn't call them "super hard mode" but they were challenging and fun. Sometimes something can be too hard and outweight the fun factor... at least for some players. I'm hoping SE can give us a healthy dose of balanced content to keep all types of players active and satisfied. If we just load super super hard content I think a lot of people will be put-off by the difficulty of it all and be bored doing leves and caravan escort over and over. At the same time I see some players burn thru Ifrit and Moogle in no time.

But like I pointed out above, on Rabanaste, Ifrit seems to be outlasting anything the game has to offer right now. I see Ifrit being a more active event than Moogle at the moment. We have people still doing Darkhold and Ifrit for the first time, and dreaming of the day they get to tackle Moogle, and on the other end of the spectrum we have people with every single drop from all 3, having completed speed runs in all 3 and are pretty much bored crafting in town all day. XD

Same in Wutai. Even as a low populated server we get several shouts per day in Ul'dah or in LS chat. Yes, there are people who do runs 24/7 but not everyone. And I still have fun doing Ifrit runs or Moogle when when we do get the "standard" setup.
