Yours probably has a higher chance of working due to the way that FFXIV is structured. My concern is that it's an area that none of us can remote assist him with. And he cannot take screenshots of it.

You're doing the right thing! But it's ffxivgame.exe! ffxivboot.exe is the updater that pops up when you first run it. ffxivgame.exe is the actual client. You want to adjust the nVidia settings for that.
If it does not work, jumping for the more solid solution, Geesus has a solution.
When you're turning on your computer, you may have to press the DEL(ete) key to get into your Bios.
And you will have to look for an Optimus checkbox, uncheck, Save settings, and continue booting up.
First attempt failed. I got the error the min I logged in on that ship. "Unable to detect directx. Shutting down. Please restart Final Fantasy XIV"
Think I should just call Dell and yell at them to help me fix it?
