So to re-rail this train as it were and to answer the OP's question, I've mostly never had that problem since I typically tend to glam my main lala in something I'd personally wear (which is usually the exact opposite of skimpier outfits). As for lalas wearing more revealing outfits, it typically depends on how far they go with it since I'm usually just as thrown off seeing some as I would if they were on any other race.
As for the "child" jokes, I don't care as much because I know the lore for lalas in that not only do they live longer than most races, but....
In the BLM 30-50 questline, one of the lala NPCs was imprisoned for a hundred years for using dark arts that, according to the lore I've seen, tends to shorten lifespans.

Well it doesn't help that I'm in miniskirts half the time, I can't really complain.
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/a_rea...ntent?lalafell
"Small by any race's standards and possessed of a childlike countenance, it proves difficult for non-Lalafell to gauge an individual's age with any degree of accuracy."
I get you people are sensitive about the fictional race you picked for your game avatar, but Lalafell are very blatantly inspired by small children, not people with dwarfism.
Whenever I Lala, I don't shy away from my usual outfits that may include swimwear, thigh boots, booty shorts, etc (I DO also have very covered outfits, but I like to mix things up :X) I've never personally had a stranger make a Lala joke, but I have a few friends who toss them out every single time. I also get jokes about my Miqo from the same group. I'm not overly fussed myself :X
Maybe I'm just used to it from my XI days, but certain jokes will always follow the races. Granted, I don't think Tarus got sexualized in the same way that Lalas do. The extra squattiness and armor didn't really give Tarus a chance to shine in that department :P

We're talking about a game where the most popular race/geneder (Cough F miqo Cough) are generally played because people can dress them slutty, and one of the tribes whole stick is the girls can only do it with that one guy in the tribe if they want a child. And they poop babies almost like they're Viera or something.
But a lala not wearing a shirt? BY THE GODS.

Personally I have no qualms with Lalas, but they're not my cup of tea and would never play one. I do, however, joke about them being a food source every so often (potatoes, popotos, etc). But that's an old one which has been around since Tarutarus were a thing. As lala players, I simply wouldn't take people seriously, because most people aren't. lol

Nope. Haven't had any weird interactions beyond people petting my character. People do tend to think he's a she... though that's very deliberate :]
