    Korean Live Letter Summary

    Figured I would post this from Reddit.

    Disclaimer: Accuracy of information is not guaranteed, as I do not understand Korean. I will, however, take responsibility for the translation/interpretation itself, on the basis that the blogpost summary in Japanese is correct.
    Skills
    • Skills automatically comboing (aka press 1 button to combo) is not going to be implemented in PvE. The reason we did this in PvP while reducing the amount of total skills is that we want players to focus more on team strategy and tactics. In PvE we feel that the effective use of branching combos is one sign of player skill. As part of our current concept regarding the battle system, we are purposefully leaving the PvP and PvE systems separate.
    • We understand that your hotbars are mostly full. In the future, we plan on removing those skills that are used the least, so that total the number of skills to use will not drastically go up.
    • We plan on inplementing a system where shields will show how much damage they will mitigate. If you weren't shielded because you didn't get in range, it will become even more apparent than before, so be careful.

    Glamour Dresser
    • We are planning on either increasing the number of plates to use, or making the system available in more areas. This will depend on server load, but we are definitely going to do something, so please be patient.

    Miscellaneous
    • A Grand Company in Ishgard is not happening yet. For lore reasons. However, we are planning on creating a new kind of content in Ishgard. Please wait for an announcement.
    • We are going to be implementing a warning before entering an instance with a weekly restriction, if the timer will go past the weekly reset time. We will also make it clear before entering Savage if the number of chests would be reduced.
    • The original plan in 4.3 was to make the Qiqirn the DoH/DoL beast tribe, that the Namazu ended up being more popular. We want to put the spotlight on the Qiqirn sometime, but nothing concrete as of yet.
    • A system where you can preview Mogstation items is in consideration.
    • We can't promise a tackle box, but we are planning on expanding content for fishers in the future.
    • We will also be adding onto the chocobo bag system.

    Jobs
    • (Regarding pure DPS jobs being unwanted in end-game content) In 4.4 we buffed BLM and SAM. As a result, participation of SAM in particular has gone up substantially.
    • (Regarding the place of MNK after the SAM buffs) There are times when the WF team has a MNK in it. It also has some party buffs, high/stable DPS, and Mantra. Rather, we have recognized that due to SAM being buffed, NIN mains are starting to worry a bit, but please understand that we do not make job adjustments by only looking at DPS numbers.
    • We are also aware of the synergy between DRG and ranged DPS. We feel that this is an issue that reduces the freedom of choice in party composition, and that something needs to be done. The dev team has acknowledged this.

    no Ishgard grand company cuz lore reasons? I understand what they mean but… this is one instance where I sure would like to yell at SE "I don't care that Thordan and the Heaven's Ward tried to screw us, let me be a Temple Knight already!!!" XD but new kind of content is better than nothing. Hope it will be good.

    If I had to guess, it'll be Ishgard housing. People have been clamoring for it since Heavensward. I know there are some lore issues with regards to housing, but that's easy enough to work around. They could do a smaller scale Doman Enclave that amounts to a couple quests explaining Ishgard's rebuilding.

    I wouldn't get my hopes up. They know people want it, but housing is becoming a huge investment because of the choices they made (ward system, equal wards per district, etc). If they do give us Ishgard housing however, I'd guess it may be the last new one we see without server restructuring (merges), resource sharing (datacenter based housing instead of world based) or non-ward based housing.

    I'm disappointed to learn that they don't want to combine combo skills into a single button in PvE like they did in PvP. It prevents clutter and...they could always just make it optional for those who do not want to use it.

    So they are going to be pruning skills again.. I am not liking this direction at all. The skill pruning completely destroyed leveling from 1-50 and messed with 1-60. Are they going to dip into 50-70 attacks now? What could possibly be deleted now? They REALLY need to think about this. The skill pruning has simplified jobs too much already.

    Off the top of my head I can think of things that can probably be deleted:
    - One-Ilm Punch
    - Arm of the Destroyer
    - Dark Passenger
    - Repose
    - Fluid Aura
    - Sleep
    - Freeze
    - Scathe(?)
    - REPELLING SHOT
    - Tempered Will(make it a role action)

    Rework these skills so that they're worth using:
    - Piercing Talon
    - Throwing Knives

    With Stormblood they've already made many wonky jobs into solid jobs where you use pretty much every skill. AST, MCH, DRG, NIN, WHM, SMN, WAR, PLD, are all solid jobs. BRD right now is like perfection. Never played SCH, SAM or RDM so I can't comment.

    I do not trust the dev team to do this ability pruning in a good way without destroying what is currently great about the jobs. I feel like it's a 100% chance they will ruin BRD. And we will log in on early access to see One-Ilm Punch, Arm of the Destroyer, and Repelling Shot still chilling in the Actions section.

    I don't understand how it takes more skill to press the same button twice than it does to press another button - you still have to hit the right sequence and time it correctly. Or do they think simply pressing more buttons takes more skill? It's not a particularly great answer.

    The role actions probably do need pruning, tbh.

    Freeze could benefit from a rework or just being replaced by Blizzard II. I'd rather not see Sleep go; it has its CC uses when leveling, and could potentially have use in dungeons. It's a classic BLM spell.

    Still, I could see how further pruning might benefit tanks or healers, but I struggle to see what more they can pare back for most dps jobs.

    I don't really see button bloat being a huge issue other than with the number of role actions. They're using traits to greater effect, to auto-upgrade certain abilities, and I expect this to continue. They will probably add, at most, 2-3 extra buttons per job.

    I am hoping that we will see something that changes up BLM playstyle a bit this time round. Foul didn't really do that so much as smooth it out a little, for that dry patch when you move into Umbral stance. I'd love some kind of ability that modified other spells, like Scathe, or like how Umbral/Astral modifies your PVP abilities. I find that sort of thing very cool.

    You brought up RDM - I don't play it much, either, tbh, since I just don't like it - but I think the suggestions by omgyoshiplz in this thread would go a long way to improving it: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...your_job_7180/

    Liked the stuff from rolopolos on BLM, WeirdJohnny for SMN and cromartie_alumnus for SAM, too. I'd really love OGCD caster procs, and an ability that allowed the use of some OGCD spells when casting for BLM. That, and making Aetherial Manipulation, Flare and Foul into ground targeted abilities, would make it much better.

    For DRG, if they were to only change ONE thing, I'd love for them to just delete Heavy Thrust or if not that, make it OGCD and not interrupt your combos. It feels tacked on as it presently stands and I think the job has lots of other things going on, such that it could do without it.

    I have my combos in a way arranged that I just have to press from left to right 1 > 2 > 3 (or better square > cross > circle since I am on PS4) for every combo. When different combos are using the same skill (like Hard Slash on DRK), I have that skill more than one time on my bar. There is basically no skill involved, it just takes up space.

    New content for fishers? YES PLEASE ^___^

    I also wish they'd un-nerf macros (the GCD rounding thing.) It's super-irritating as a PC user to have mouseover macros be less efficient than just casting the spell.

    And yet for some reason they gave people another 5 role actions... So are they planning on removing skills and putting them into role actions? Kinda seems where it's heading... but that doesn't really reduce bloat.
