In Game Voice Chat, Why doesn't this game have it and would you use if it did?

ESO only has integrated chat on the Console versions, the PC client has no VO. Very, very few people use the integrated VO on PUGs (that might be an issue the the EU servers). The quality of the game chat VO clients is usually very bad in a lot of games (Destiny, ESO, GoW) so people usually just use the 1st party voice chat unless they really had to (PS4 party chat is 8 players only).

Using Discord as a PS4 player is possible but not that comfortable. You need a 2nd device (phone or PC) and (if you want to hear game sound as well) some creative cabeling to do so. Not a perfect solution. I can understand SE being weary adding VO support as it is complicated because:

a) you route everything through their servers, adding more lag and strain to them
b) route directly between clients and have to deal with NAT issues ...

I can't speak for the PC version but the PS4 version of ESO only got text chat rather recently, like within the last year or so. Before that the only option you had to communicate was voice chat so if you planned to interact with anyone (even to just explain mechanics or ask why you had to tank an entire dungeon as a healer with an ice destro staff) voice was literally the only way to do so.

I know, I played the game for 4 years on PS4/EU. In all that time I've ran hundreds of dungeons via the group finder and I had maybe a handful of group where people were actually using the VO chat. This IMHO mostly due to the fact that while most Europeans can at least/write english to some extent not that many are able or willing to speak that language. For coordinated group this was of course different.

And yes, Sony, please give us a Discord client for the PS4.

As much as I didn't enjoy only having voice chat to communicate I can't imagine navigating some of the dungeons (and mostly the players) that I encountered playing that game without any communication.

Props to you. At least NA used voice when it was the only option.

It still doesn't hold a candle to Discord of course. If I could give my phone or tablet a break and just run discord from my ps4 I would be thrilled.
