In Game Voice Chat, Why doesn't this game have it and would you use if it did?

As the title says, I'm curious as to why, with this game's style of play and combat, does it not have an in game voice chat feature? Sure, you could search the internet for any number of 3rd party voice chat apps/programs, but why should we have to go outside the game just to get something that should've been there to begin with.

Would any of you guys use the in game voice chat over Discord and whatever else is out there?

Personally, I wouldn't because discord is just convenient to use for me. My static often discusses strats, so it's nice to be able to just have one application to talk to them about while we're all looking at it, and then being able to check in on fc events that are coming up while on voice chat. But that's just me personally, coming from someone who really hasn't had a super bad experience with discord.

Probably for the same reason there is no in game p*****.
When you read some comments players get in text chat I can kinda understand why they don't throw you into a party and allow VC.

It's a waste of development time when there are more than enough suitable alternatives out there you can use for voice chat.

I'm not sure how Blizzard's new integrated B.net chat is going, but when they originally introduced voice chat to WoW back in like 2007, people pretty much just didn't use it ever, despite the fact that back then the popular choices were all paid. Now that Discord is being a thing, what benefit is it to me for them to develop an integrated chat function, especially because it just creates pressure to join voice chat with obnoxious randoms? Discord is free, sufficiently high quality, and practically ubiquitous already.

For me, it’s doubtful. Discord offers too many extra things for me to use an in-game chat as an alternative. But I only talk in Discord with people who are my friends; I won’t join random Discords usually because too shy.

I have only played another game that have ingame voice chat and the quality is poor compare to Discord, so I don't think Dev should waste time developing an ingame voice chat unless it's better than the free option outside. Most players won't use it anyway, even when doing savage content in PF/RF, all we need is a macro on the strats and things gets done.

Social anxieties aside, I can live without another round of some random kid throwing racial slurs he doesn't actually understand while insulting my parentage.

There are so many 3rd party services that can and will do it better than anything SE could implement. Especially given that the ongoing DDoS on each of the datacenters would ALSO impact voice communication. Given that there are enough bandwidth issues for just gamedata packets, I would never want to add additional bloat going to/from SE's datacenters for voice when something like Discord works so much better. And for those who don't like Discord's approach, there's always Ventrillo, TeamSpeak, or Mumble servers people can run on their own. Or things like Google Hangouts, Skype, or FB Messenger if all the players know each other.

From what I heard about the built-in voicechat in WoW, it's garbage and rarely used. Perhaps that's changed since its release, but with the added benefits of literally any other service, there's no reason to expend development costs to force a half-working solution into FFXIV when Yoshi-P has already stated he doesn't think it should ever be required.

Naoki Yoshida: We do not plan on offering official support for voice chat. To explain that decision, the idea of talking directly to other players with your own voice and making it a requirement to do so will not necessarily be a good thing for beginners and new players and many will see it as imposing pressure or causing them unnecessary stress.

I am personally a veteran online gamer so I completely understand the importance of voice chat but if we were to make it an officially supported feature then there is a chance that some players would start to demand that others use it just because it is an “official feature”.

Of course, we will not be prohibiting external voice chat via Skype etc, so individual player communities can still sort out their own preferred means of communication!
